From the office of Del. Pat McDonough:
Delegate McDonough Maintains the Mayor is (AWOL), “Absent Without Leadership,” and Engaging in a Cover-up Type Policy
McDonough says, “Criminal Acts and Violent Behavior Have Been Re-occurring in the Greater Harbor Area for Many Years.” The number of events are increasing and getting more brutal. That is why I asked the Governor to declare the harbor area a “no travel zone” until it’s safe. This could be accomplished overnight with the proper leadership, a “Solutions Summit” and a city-wide curfew.
Delegate Charges the Mayor is Forcing Out Her Two Top Public Safety Advisors at the Worse Time. “Delegate McDonough said, “The Mayor in an outrageous lapse of judgment is pressuring the resignation of Police Commissioner Bealefeld and Criminal Justice Chief Sherry Goldstein.”
Delegate McDonough continued, “The mayor is playing a dangerous game with the lives of innocent people. The violent incidents in the greater harbor area is only one symptom of youth street violence in Baltimore. It is becoming clear that beyond the usual hooligans, organized gangs are leaving their turf and joining in the criminal activities. These problems should have been addressed at the beginning of her administration. I am calling for a ‘Solutions Summit” that includes business leaders, clergy of all faiths, community activists, and everyone in the state from both the black and white communities. A ‘Solution Summit’ is long overdue. The Mayor’s focus of time, energy, and tax money on a failed Grand Prix race while closing recreation centers and youth programs are other examples of failed leadership.”
Delegate McDonough concluded, “The purpose of my public awareness campaign is to issue a 911 call to the Mayor, public officials, the media and press. The ‘inconvenient truth’ can sometimes cause controversy, but it is absolutely necessary to make a positive change. Some may call it a ‘publicity stunt,’ but publicity is what is needed to solve this problem. Baltimore will overcome crime or crime will overcome Baltimore.”
Continuing the Delegate said, “I believe that my public awareness campaign has already produced some results including forcing the Mayor to finally initiate a temporary show of force, which is not a long-term solution. It is long overdue for her to descend from her taxpayer funded Camden Yards private box in an Oriole jersey, circulating among the people at the Harbor protected by hundreds of police officers.”
PROUD TO BE LIBERAL says
Every political hack needs to create a symbolic boogeyman to attack in order to marshal his constituents. (The art of propaganda consists precisely in being able to awaken the imagination of the public through an appeal to their feelings, in finding the appropriate psychological form that will arrest the attention and appeal to the hearts of the national masses.)
This sorry excuse of a political sideshow is just a cover-up of McDonough’s total lack of accomplishments as our representative in Annapolis. He regularly attacks minorities instead of researching and sponsoring legislation that would benefit Harford County. I do not think his clown act can be a substitute for the hard work needed to positively support our county. This is another example of how people can vote against their best interests based solely on emotions that have been manipulated by cynical politicians.
Taxpayer says
The problems in the City should be a concern to all Maryland residents as that is a drain on taxpayer funds. How much of our resources are being poured into the City just to see the same problems become worse and the bloated school administration continue to spend almost twice the funds per student and have dismal, embarrassing results. The Baltimore problems affect every Maryland resident.
That being said, for McDonough to place the blame on the current Mayor is not fair, considering this is a long-term problem that has not been dealt with by the previous administrations and more importantly, the community. Baltimore cannot change until the people in the City demand change and support those trying to end the culture of violence. Greater accountability for resources allocated is necessary as well as greater accountaility to those in charge of such. Continuing to pour more money there without that is insanity.
