From the Harford County Sheriff’s Office:
At approximately 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call for shots fired in the 1900 block of Edgewater Drive in Edgewood, MD. Upon arrival, deputies located two victims that had been shot. The first victim, a 43 year old male, was transported to John Hopkins Bayview Medical Center by ambulance. The second victim, a 26 year old male, was transported to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center by ambulance.
Shortly after the first two victims were transported to the hospital, deputies received a call that a third gunshot victim had been transported to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center by family members. I am sure everyone involved are upstanding hard working citizens. Lets see how many people blame law enforcement for not preventing this. cant believe my proposal for assigning a deputy/babysitter to every household didnt go through. Animals will always act like animals and there is not nothing anyone can do.
Beemerman says
Unfortunately, your comment, though clearly tongue-in-cheek, might just be on the money. In a community of lawless people, there can never be enough police to prevent thugs from assaulting each other.
Regulardude123 says
Well, you are the first to say something stupid about this tragedy. How about reserving your comments until additional information is released. Its quite likely this was a retaliation for the recent stabbing or other gang activity, and that one or more of these folks could be innocent bystanders. My advice to you is listen more, talk less.
really says
Guess what dummy, if its a retaliation for the recent stabbing or other gang activity, that means somehow/somewhere recently they were involved in criminal activity. like i said upstanding citizens.
Regulardude123 says
Listen F’nuts, instead of being Captain Obvious, maybe just stop fueling the fire with comments like that. Watch whom you call Dummy, I may be your IAD nigthmare.
Kharn says
I am sure witnesses are lined up outside the Southern precient waiting to give statements and view photo arrays this morning…
What Works says
Well it looks like good ole police work prevailed, since we can be assured no witnesses came forward. Thank you HCSO
BPB says
I eagerly await the following comments ” I knew the shooters, they loved their kids”, ” The Sheriff’s Office isn’t doing enough”, “Edgewood isn’t bad, crime happens everywhere”
So please proceed.
Glad to see REALLY is on the same page, I feel that Edgewood is a lost cause these days. C’mon Edgewood residence, prove me wrong!
REALIST says
WOW Angry Bird. The only thing you left off was the word black. It’s nice to see Harford County is making strides is racism and passing judgements. This Harfordtucky attitude was referenced by Patrick Spicer in “Decade of Delay: the Desegregation of the Harford County Schools” you need to read that. Education is key. I hope you are not raising children!
BPB says
Who are you replying to? Nothing I wrote has a single thing to do with race. If you are indeed relying to my comment as the board would suggest, could you please explain?
Publius Cornelius Scipio Africanus says
There was absolutely nothing racially offensive about “BPB’s” comments. Though, BPB started out referencing Really’s sarcasm which was a bit spicier there was nothing racially offensive about “Really’s” comment either
Sounds as if, Mr. “Realist” you need to realIZE that your paranoia is based in identifying with negative subcultural aspects of a community. And,…while, that negativity may be disproportionate in some largely populated black communities (since, it is obvious by your defensiveness that you are quick to identify with it as being such) recognize that it is not INDIGENOUS to black people.
BPB was lamenting and later rooting for the area to succeed.
To use a contrived term from a comedian, Realist you need to stop all that “Blameworthiness” my friend.
Marc Eaton says
How can this be? Bane states gang violence is down and the crime rate is at a all time low. Don’t blame the men and women who work the streets for the Sheriff’s Office. Blame the Sheriff who seems to be more worried about coddling criminals and head hunting his own people then taking a stand against crime. Bane is only worried about getting another four years. Do you really think that Harford County needs another four years of this leadership? Hopefully someone will step up and run for Sheriff and take the streets back from the gangs. This hug a thug just is not working Jesse, and your people have to worry about you and your head hunters coming after them should they stop or arrest one of your friends or supporters. Time to let the Sheriff’s Office fight crime again, and this can’t be done with Bane running the department. Voters should have no confidence in Bane solving the gang problem.
Edgewood has some bad eggs living there. I worked Edgewood and there are a lot of good people who live there, raised a family, and built great lives in Edgewood. Time for you all to get a Sheriff who cares about your safety and your future.
CptnObvious says
It’s time for Harford County to put in place a full sized and county wide police force with complete jurisdiction. The days of relying on a sheriff’s department with backup provided by the State police are coming to an end. This follows in line with the need to have a standing non-volunteer fire department.
The communication and command and control benefits will augment the ability to provide services.
or you can just hope that all the problems move out of the county
Kharn says
A bulldozer would be a lot cheaper.
The county wouldn’t have to pay police pensions, workman’s comp, etc, and the taxpayers would get a nice network of parks.
CptnObvious says
Depending on which crony gets the contract it may not be cheaper.
OMG says
KHARN,,,,your comment was sad, I usually find more value in your post.
Publius Cornelius Scipio Africanus says
No offense CptnObvious though, I can certainly see the benefit of the overwhelming force that you’ve laid out. However, are you aware that there is a significant cost increase that comes along with that? Therefore, are you willing to champion the significant tax increase that comes along with your proposal?
CptnObvious says
There’s a cost for doing things and then there’s the cost of not doing things. Bottom line short term dollars cannot be the only deciding factor or else all public projects lose. While that may sound good to some there is a price to pay in terms of things other than cash.
Publius Cornelius Scipio Africanus says
You are absolutely right. I raised the issue of cost because currrent society seems to be strongly averse to any tax increases.
There have been other proposals such as new legislation regulating lessors but, did that not fail too? I think that was an effort to hold tennants more accountable by holding landlords more accountable.
My mentioning these things I am not saying I am neither for or against anyone at this point.
Monster says
Eaton, I am sick of hearing from you and your political messages. Who didn’t know that you would take this opportunity to blame Bane. You are an imbecile.
NeverCease2BeAmazed says
PLEASE! It is NOT all of Edgewood! The Courts of Harford Square, Meadowood (or whatever they are calling those areas these days), Harford Square and Edgewater Village make up a small percentage of Edgewood, but a huge percentage of crime reports. There are areas of Edgewood that remain the same quiet, tree-lined streets. To use these crime reports to say ‘Edgewood is a lost cause ‘ is a fallacy: the crime happened in Edgewood; this neighborhood is in Edgewood; therefore this crime happened in that neighborhood. Life gets very dangerous when you paint with a broad brush. Would the residents of Homestead Village like to be forever linked to crime that occurs in The Seasons? I am sure they would not, and they should not. Same concept: do not condemn an entire zip code for the actions that occur in a limited area.
And before I get bombarded: I do not live in Edgewood, but I did grow up there. I remember going to friends’ houses in Edgewater Village and Harford Square, and what has happened to those areas truly saddens me. However, many of the areas near there are the same as they have always been, minus the negative perception of those that only see the Edgewood that they drive past on 40.
Tiredofit says
Another crime in that same section of town (little Baltimore). So tired of hearing about crime in our small town. We need to rid ourselves of the section 8 housing back there. I love our community where we live, very quiet, but when I hear about all this crime it just makes me want to get the hell out of here. It’s a shame one section of town has to ruin it for everyone.
What Works says
you will never get rid of sect 8 housing….once again nothing about the rich slum lords, do they not have any responsibility for what happens at their property???? The landlords have the control of their property!!!!
Mike Welsh says
When I was involved with the Section 8 housing program several years ago, the home had to be inspected and approved by the program administrators before they would qualify the home for inclusion in the program. The home had to be in good condition with all appliances, toilets, water lines etc., in good working order. They took picture of the home inside and out. If I had any damage from a renter, the Section 8 program paid for the repairs. While I didn’t get rich from the Section 8 program, I certainly made money.
I would also like to point out that it is not the home/property that makes a slum, it is the occupants of the property. Some of my renters were great people while others were crap. If you are implying that property owners need to start action through Section 8 to have the pieces of crap removed, I would concur. I had to do that several times, and was successful each time with the full cooperation of the Section 8 administrators. It was neither a difficult nor lengthy process.
Marc Eaton says
Monster or Fred? He vomits out all these great numbers on how he is crushing crime and gangs. So when it goes bad he needs to man up and take responsibility for this. Who didn’t think you would come running to Bane’s rescue. Stop hiding behind your fake name you coward . If he was as hard a on crime as he is screwing with his people Harford County would have no crime. You can get my number call me you coward, be a man.
Marc Eaton says
Monster did you think I would give up on Bane and his crew.
Monster says
Eaton, I don’t use my real name because during the last election I received numerous harassing phone calls. It upset my family and I won’t do it anymore. I wonder who was behind these calls? As far as being a man, I will meet you anywhere, any time. I don’t want to talk to you, you say the same things over and over. I already told you after one of your political rants, that your accusations needed to be backed up by going to civil authorities. I doubt you did that because you really have nothing except an axe to grind against Bane. Why don’t you man up, you are the coward.
Marc Eaton says
Monster no one called you stop telling stories. I put my name and email on here and no one threatened or harassed me. Let’s meet up and have a beer and talk, I will be glad to tell you what actions I have taken. They are not rants. Bane is a coward. He hides behind his office to intimidate and make certain peoples lives miserable. He will not even call me to discuss anything that I have written or said….he will have someone else do it for him and he has. Not political either, when I lived in the county I voted for Sheriffs who were republican and democrat. Bane is a cancer on the Sheriff’s Office, he has destroyed the moral of most people. The only people who are happy are in his click and like there perks that come with that. In 22 years I never heard of a Sheriff taking property out evidence that was recovered in a search warrant and returning the property. People getting arrested and having the Sheriffs cell phone number in their phone. People calling the Sheriff from the jail when arrested. Why do thugs have a Sheriff’s cell phone number? During Mele’s term if you went to a neighborhood who was in the neighborhood watch program the citizen would tell that Jesse said you will do a report on this. His bs started back then. You see people call and email me and tell me many things. I have plenty more, saving the best for the months leading up to the election. Now that I am back in the Union I plan getting involved even more . Monster marc0189@verizon.net, or just ask Bane or one of his crew for my cell number! I am easy to find. Really stop the crap about hiding behind a fake name, your one of Bane’s crew you will be fine.
Otto Schmidlap says
So, I guess they’ll be three fewer seats at the next MENSA luncheon. The job of police is to investigate crime, not to “prevent” it.
Mike Welsh says
The job of police is to solve and abate crime. Not expecting the police to conduct policing techniques which abate and thus prevent crime is not holding your police agency to acceptable modern day standards. Hopefully, all of us understand that the police can’t prevent all crime. That said, we should hold our police leaders accountable for providing positive and effective programs and techniques that abate crime within their jurisdiction.
Otto Schmidlap says
That’s commonly known as a distinction without a difference.
Jessica says
Not police problem. I say let them all kill each other hell they probably are on food stamps wic cash assistant n selling drugs so let them clean house so to speak. The only sad part is they couldn’t shot a side of barn. You want to clean up edgewood, aberdeen Havre de grace then stop callin policc let them finish tHe job. If the want 2 shot at ppl learn to do it rite
Rightontarget says
So Jessica,
“The only sad part is they couldn’t shot a side of bar”
Maybe we should hold clinics to teach them to hit the intended target?
Lets set up a range where these shooters can practice and achieve some level of marksmanship . Think of the money that would be saved treating wounds. It’s cheaper to bury them than hospitalize them for weeks.
David A. Porter says
Larger caliber weapons would be a help. Just imagine the carnage during the Civil War where the calibers were on the order of .58. You didn’t make holes, you eliminated limbs and whole groups of organs.
OMG says
is it ok for you to talk of such violence because of your zip code?
Bobbie P says
Instead of teaching them to have better shooting skills at the range, lets get them to the range and just use them as targets when we qualify. Save money and eliminate the crap.
Jessica says
Just let them bleed out then burn them who cares they don’t so y should we
OMG says
@Jessica… your comment “who cares they don’t so y should we” what/who is the “we” you are referring to?
OMG says
by the way… sorry grammar trying to coincide with your lingo
