From the glory days of waterfowl hunting to the present days of recreational birdwatching, Havre de Grace has been known as a prime location for finding birds. Today, local hotspots such as Susquehanna State Park and Swan Harbor Farm have earned a reputation as some of the best birding areas in all of Maryland.
In this introductory presentation, we’ll explore the wide variety of birds that can be found in the 21078 zip code – from the everyday residents, to migrants that are only seen during certain times of the year, to the wayward rarities that create a buzz among the birding community. We’ll also touch on some basics of bird identification, equipment and backyard feeding. Finally, we’ll take a walk on the Promenade to see what birds are flying about. Bring your binoculars if you have them!
Dave Webb has birded Harford County and beyond for 23 years. During this time he has led countless field trips, participated in over 70 bird counts, and taught birding classes at Harford Community College and Longwood Gardens. Dave is Past President of the Harford Bird Club and current Treasurer of the Maryland Ornithological Society.
