From Harford Friends School:
Street, MD – April 13, 2012 – The Board of Trustees of Friends School of Baltimore recently approved a statement providing graduates of Harford Friends School preferential admissions status to the 228 year-old independent school on Charles Street. The statement formalizes what had already been a de facto relationship between the schools. To date, every Harford Friends School applicant to Friends School of Baltimore had been accepted by virtue of his or her academic preparedness to thrive in the intellectually rich and engaging program at FSB, as well as a deep understanding of the core principles of Friends education – self-awareness, growth, and service to others.
FSB Head of School Matt Micciche said that, “this arrangement reflects our desire to foster the relationship between our two schools and to encourage the graduates of Harford Friends School to consider joining our community as they move into Upper School. We feel confident that an HFS education prepares students well for the demanding curriculum at our school. Just as importantly, we know that both HFS students and their families bring with them a strong sense of the unique value of a Quaker education and a deeply-held commitment to the educational and spiritual philosophy on which our School is founded.”
Jonathan Huxtable, Head of Harford Friends School, noted enthusiasm and appreciation for Friends School of Baltimore’s recognition of the caliber of student Harford Friends was already sending to Charles Street. “Our eighth grade graduates have made smooth and natural transitions to an outstanding high school program at Friends. We recognize the relationship between the two schools as mutually beneficial and in the interest of our students seeking to continue a Friends education through high school.”
