From Del. Kathy Szeliga:
Friends,
Election day is this Tuesday!
You won’t be surprised to know that I am urging you to vote for Andy Harris in Maryland’s 1st Congressional District.
Additionally, I hope you will join me in my strong support for State Senator Nancy Jacobs in the District 2 Congressional race. I have known Nancy Jacobs for almost 25 years. She is a woman of integrity and someone I know we can always count on. I’m proud and honored to call her a friend and a mentor.
This election is critical. We must elect Nancy Jacobs to join conservative lawmakers in Congress who will insist that good governance and our Constitution come first.
As a State Senator and Minority Leader in Maryland Nancy Jacobs has been a champion of job growth and a supporter of small business. She received an award this year from Maryland Business For Responsive Government for her pro-business votes.
Nancy has also been chosen twice as one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women. Recently she was selected by the Maryland State’s Attorneys’ Association as Senator of the Year. Jacobs succeeding in passing Jessica’s Law, which cracks down child sex offenders. She also was the first to pass laws to fight gang violence.
Please join me and other respected conservatives, Bob Ehrlich, Andy Harris and Ellen Sauerbrey who support Nancy Jacobs for Congress. Nancy is known for her integrity and hard work on behalf of Marylanders. We believe she is the best candidate to beat Dutch Ruppersberger in the fall.
Sincerely,
Kathy
Delegate Kathy Szeliga

And she wins a district with two and half times as many Democrats as Republicans how?? That’s the $15.5 trillion question all of us need to seriously ask ourselves.
Folks, this election matters way too much to our children and our country to place feel-good political protocol over patriotism.
Let’s put an honor graduate from the U.S. Army Intelligence School at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, someone who was also the Defense Intelligence Agency’s Operations Officer in Afghanistan during the bloodiest year of that war, up against the Ranking Member of the House Intelligence Committee–a man who never served a day in his life in uniform–and see what happens…
Let’s match the incumbent’s graduate degree in law with our guy’s graduate degree in public policy.
Let’s put the 46 year-old lieutenant colonel up against the 66 year-old politician and see what happens…
Let’s actually try to win this one! Shall we?
Thanks,
Larry

Mr. Smith, I am impressed with your background and your positions. I am less impressed with your rhetoric and press releases. It has recently caused me to question my leaning toward voting for you.
Jacobs has impressive experience and a good record overall. I am aware of very issue specific work she has done for people in a very non-glory-hunting manner. That impresses me.
Unfortunately, I don’t think either of you have the ability to beat Dutch. Despite that, I will be weighing my vote this evening throughout the day.
Thank you for your candidacy. Good luck.
Larry Smith says
Well Noble, if there’s a silver lining in all of this it’s that Dutch has 100 giraffe houses I can go after…and I will. So thanks for your judicious consideration today. Go America!

Talking points from our elected officials have made their constituents weary. People are smart and can make up their own minds about who’s best to serve their interests in government. What folks don’t want are career bureacrats who make false claims reagrding their voting record. That’s why it’s imperative we vote in candidates, like LTC Larry Smith, who are unhampered by voting mistakes and earmarks that will be used against them by an incumbent like Dutch Ruppersberger. Make no mistake, the 2nd district is majority democrat and in order to defeat the current Congressman we need a candidate that is NOT endorsed by conservative politicians. We need a candidate of substance, one who has risked his life to serve our country. We need LTC Smith for Maryland’s 2nd district.

I’m with K on this one.
No offense to anyone but I would prefer a fresh start with new people in office.
Go, Larry!

Agreed. I am a strong proponent of voting out every incumbant at every level of government, regardless of position, record, or party.

I am so tired of the “giraffe house” attack by Larry and his followers. Larry himself has talked as recently as this weekend about Return on Investment (ROI) specifically in regards to education and yet he uses the giraffe house against Nancy. So much trash talking and now he even gets her age wrong. Sheesh.
Yes – career politicians can be a problem, but there are exceptions to the stereotype. Nancy is one of them. The problem with a complete unknown (like Larry) is you’re not sure how they will vote or what they believe. Let’s look at Obama as a perfect example of this. Larry has gone back and forth on issues between the debate, forums, and his Facebook page. So many “clarifications” and that makes me wary.
Nancy Jacobs has a track record and she hasn’t been part of the good ol’ boys network of career politicians. She has kept her constituents needs in mind and LISTENS! We need her!

Dutch is 66. Subsidizing one state zoo is enough. Policy-making is always about selecting tradeoffs; and considering all the components and consequences is tiresome — but that’s not a legitimate excuse for ignoring them.

Senator Jacobs does have a track record. Let’s begin with her 2003 DREAM Act vote, H.B. 253. She voted yea, in favor of the legislation while then Senator Harris voted no, against the bill. H.B. 253 passed with the help of Mrs. Jacobs. The only reason H.B. 253 has not been in effect for the past nine years is due to then Governor Ehrlich’s veto. When this vote was brought to Senator Jacobs attention she declared it was a terrible mistake. Per Senator Jacobs, she asked someone, I’m not clear who, to allow her to change her vote to nay, since she had made a mistake. Mrs. Jacobs was supposedly told that her vote had to remain yea since you aren’t allowed to change a vote after it has been placed. The audio has been listened to from this voting event. The legislation was debated for 9 minutes prior to the actual vote being taken and tallied. In addition, there was no request made by any member to change or alter a vote. She had already been in the Maryland legislature for 8 years before this mistake so I don’t think not knowing how to vote is plausible. There are other factors that come into play indicating the incredulousness of Sen. Jacobs mistake vote on such an important issue to so many republicans. Especially those that have spent many hours of their time collecting signatures for a ballot referendum against the DREAM Act. The hypocrisy is rich indeed when it comes to the record of Senator Jacobs. On the other hand, LTC Smith is a fresh face with new ideas. He may not have a tainted voting record but he certainly has an in-depth plan of solutions to help remedy the ills affecting the 2nd congressional district, our state, and great nation. We’ve seen that career bureacrats (Senator Jacobs 17 years in the Maryland legislature qualifies) are unable to solve the problems affecting us. It’s time to elect new candidates with the know-how, put in writing, to put our country back on a path of stability and greatness. Larry Smith is up for the task. He won’t let us down.

I’ve been reading Larry Smith’s website since December. He’s already flip flopped on issues and if you add the things he’s said in public and then needed to clarify, clarify, and clarify again – that’s much more worrisome. Totally looks like Obama and the left in how he is great talk for the particular group he’s talking to.
His Indiana Jones video in regards to the Nazi choosing poorly and the drink the kool-aid – in regards to voting for Nancy – comment over the weekend was in such poor taste I know he lost all credibility with my friends who had considered him a strong candidate. Integrity counts. Honesty counts. Larry doesn’t have it.
Nancy may have made some mistakes but she owns up to them. Larry’s never held office and doesn’t know how many things are going on at once especially at the end of a session. I’d actually give him a little credit if he’d just admit that he’s not perfect, but arrogance and mixing one half-truth with multiple lies is his game.
Nancy Jacobs is honest, she listens, she cares about the Constitution, she cares about people and the country, she has ideas, and she can beat Dutch in November.

Fortunately I don’t get a chance to endorse Mr Harris’ return to Congress, not that I would even consider offering him a chance. I would urge all of you that can to please think for yourselves and eliminate the tendency of some incumbents to be against most everything and vote for a candidate that has some ideas that are pro-active.
