Fire officials are continuing their investigation into a fire which gutted a Bel Air home Thursday night.
The fire was discovered by a neighbor in the attached car port of a home on the 200 block of Broadview Avenue in Bel Air at approximately 9 p.m., according to a release by the state fire marshal’s office. A total of 50 firefighters from the Bel Air, Fallston, and Joppa fire companies brought the blaze under control in two hours.
A smoke alarm was present in the home at the time of the fire but was not working. Damage to the home was estimated at $150,000, while damage to its contents was estimated at $50,000.
An investigation into the origin and cause of the fire is ongoing. Anyone with information concerning the incident is asked to contact the North East Regional Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal at 410-836-4844.
