From the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County:
On March 22, 2012 Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County will hold its 22nd Annual Steak & Burger Dinner at the New Life Center at Mt. Christian Church in Joppa, Maryland. The evening is a celebration of the many accomplishments of the youth at the Harford County Clubs in Aberdeen, Bel Air, Edgewood and Havre de Grace. Guests will be able to dine with the children, teenagers, and families that have benefited from the Clubs’ programs and listen to a keynote speech delivered by Baltimore Ravens Linebacker Jameel McClain. Guests will also be present for the naming of the 2012 Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford County Youth of the Year, the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club member can receive. The title recognizes outstanding contributions to a member’s family, school, community, and Boys & Girls Club, as well as overcoming personal challenges and obstacles. The Youth of the Year will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the organization. Pastor Ben Cachiaras, of Mountain Christian Church, will be serving at the Master of Ceremonies.
Mr. McClain has played four seasons for the Baltimore Ravens, and has been an active member of his community. Mr. McClain has an incredible story, going from homelessness to being a Baltimore Raven. This year’s event is presented by Macy’s Mid-Atlantic. “Macy’s, Inc. supports thousands of nonprofit organizations annually because we believe giving back in the right thing to do. It’s a long-standing tradition and one of which we are very proud.”
Ms. Diane Smith, Boys & Girls Clubs Board Member, is inspired by the Steak & Burger Dinner. “This is a wonderful evening because we as a community can come together and celebrate the young people of Boys & Girls Clubs, honoring their hard work and dedication to success.” said Ms. Smith “You can see how much the night means to them too-they are so excited and so proud to share with the guests their stories. We are honored to welcome Mr. McClain to this year’s Steak & Burger Dinner, as his is a journey of overcoming adversity, embracing opportunity, and never losing hope. I am sure Mr. McClain’s story will resonate with the young people of Boys & Girls Clubs.”
Seating is limited; over 500 people attended last year’s event. Individuals can purchase tickets for $60.00 or participate as a table sponsor for $600.00. Additional sponsorship opportunities are available online at www.bgcharfordco.org or by calling 410-272-0010.
