From Forest Hill Lanes:
Racking up a high score of 174 points, a team average of 802 and a total pins-plus-handicap for the season of 42, 258, the team “Nick & the Three Others” from North Harford High School won the Forest Hill Lanes 2011-2012 High School Bowling championship.
Nick Kress led his team with 7,483 pins, but it was a gutsy, come-from-behind performance on the final day of competition that lifted the “Bowling Hawks” above the second place finishers, the team of Kelsey Cochran, Eli Jaffe, Ben Smith Aaron Simpers and Matt Wassin from Aberdeen High School.
Other significant winners were Matt Wassin from Aberdeen High School, who racked up the individual highest average of 206.60. The girls’ highest average was won by Faith Davis of North Harford, with 157.23. Winning “Most Improved” were Tyler Stiner from North Harford “Swag” team, and Alicia Greene from another North Harford Team!
The 2011-2012 season ran 14 weeks, starting on November 14, 2011, through February 21, 2012, and included 26 teams from North Harford High, Fallston High, Patterson Mill High, Aberdeen, Bel Air, C. Milton Wright and Harford Tech. Trophies, plaques, prizes and recognition were given at a ceremony at Forest Hill Lanes on Monday, February 28, 2012. All winning team members each received an individual trophy, and individual achievement winners received plaques. All trophies and plaques were donated by Forest Hill Lanes.
This was the 13th consecutive year of the League, which is coordinated through Harford County Public Schools athletic directors. “We are very pleased that several teachers attended the bowling sessions every week,” says Assistant Manager and League Coordinator Rose Murphy. “They coached and encouraged the kids, who really appreciated seeing their teachers’ extra commitment.”
Each member of the winning team also each received a $200 scholarship letter, to be used to activate a voucher that helps pay college tuition costs; these vouchers are good for 2 years after graduation from high school. Each member of the second place team received a $100 scholarship letter, and each member of the 3rd place team received a $50 scholarship letter. The scholarships were donated by the Klein family of Harford County, owners of Forest Hill Lanes.

I was highly impressed with the Forest Hill Bowling Alley and its dedication to the student teams of the Harford County Public Schools. As an administrator for North Harford High School, I attended the awards ceremony and was proud of all of the students from throughout the county that competed this season. Thank you Forest Hill Lanes…I don’t think that HCPS realizes what you actually are doing for the students interested in bowling in Harford County. Finally, Congratulations to my NHHS teams, you made me proud.
