An early Friday morning accident closed all four northbound lanes of Interstate 95 near the Maryland House rest area for six hours after a tractor-trailer overturned and caught fire, state police said.
The accident occurred at approximately 1:55 a.m. after Exit 80, according to the Maryland State Police JFK Highway Barrack. A tractor-trailer lost control and overturned across all four lanes before catching fire, police said.
The accident had been cleared and the road reopened just before 8 a.m., according to the Maryland Department of Transportation’s website. State Police said the driver of the tractor-trailer sustained minor injuries in the crash.
The crash caused significant backups in the Riverside area during the morning commute, as traffic was redirected onto Route 543 and Route 40 around the closure.
