From the League of Women Voters of Harford County:
Thursday, February 16, kicks off the spring series of free movie being offered by the League of Women Voters of Harford County and the Political Awareness Association of Harford Community College. Iron Jawed Angels tells the remarkable and little known story of a group of passionate and dynamic young women who put their lives on the line to fight for American women’s right to vote.
An outstanding female ensemble portrays the efforts of Alice Paul (Hilary Swank) and her friend Lucy Burns (Francis O’Connor) as they fight for a Constitutional Amendment. “A formidable testament to the sacrifices and the bloodshed for women’s enfranchisement, Iron Jawed Angels may just embarrass people into actually going to the polls,” from the film guide of the Sundance Film Festival.
On March 13, Blue Gold: World Water Wars, will address the future of the water supply and human survival. Will future wars be fought over water as they are over oil today? How will the global marketplace and the political arena vie for control of our dwindling supply?
On April 17, Race to Nowhere, a look of the pressures on today’s students will offer an intimate view of the difficult and sometimes tragic side of our often achievement obsessed culture.
All movies will start at 6:00 PM in room 132 in Edgewood Hall at Harford Community College. For a campus map and directions, go to www.harford.edu/tour/campusmap.asp.
