A stillborn fetus was found Tuesday evening in a Bel Air trash bin, police said, after the child’s mother alerted police to her actions.
According to a release by the Bel Air Police Department, at 5:37 p.m. Harford County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were called by Baltimore County police to the 900 block of Sablewood Road, in The Seasons at Bel Air apartment complex.
Baltimore County police reported receiving a call from a woman who claimed she had given birth to a stillborn child at the home of a relative inside the town limits of Bel Air, then wrapped it in a plastic bag and deposited the child in a trash bin at the Sablewood Road location.
The woman led investigators to the trash bin, where they recovered the child’s body.
The woman was taken to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center for further medical evaluation, Bel Air police said, while the child was taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Baltimore, where a cause of death will be determined.

What a world we live in. Animals wouldn’t treat their newborns, living or dead this way.
DK says
That’s actually entirely false. I’ve seen a cat completely abandoned her kittens and wouldnt have anything to do with them. If I didnt take them to the humane society they would have starved to death. Hamsters will eat their young. Polar bears will eat their young. At least she didn’t eat the fetus.

Was it a diabetis fetus?
Jesse Bane once told me a good recipe, put that little thing in a cock pot, season it with old bay and onions, 8 hours later you got one hell of a meal. Mm mm good!

Debunk this…there is no other creature on the planet that intentionally kills it’s own young in the womb.
David A. Porter says
You are obviously unaware that certain animals induce abortion by eating plants that cause their unborn to be spontaneoulsy miscarried. Nice try.
Bruce O'H. says
And, I assume, they do this intentionally, with their innate depth of pharmacopeia knowledge? They determine that the pregnancy is inconvenient at the time…perhaps it interferes with school or career plans, etc, and they intentionally seek those plants out as a matter of choice? But only the Secular Fundamentalists, the more enlightened ones, who believe that the fountainhead of godhood has been conferred upon them. The right to choose…who lives or dies.
You’re right, I was unaware of that level of sophistication and thought from our animal brethren.

I think it is interesting that the reporter can’t decide what to say. In the headline it is a fetus, which in the argument for pro life or pro death would mean it is not a baby. Then in the article it is called a child, which would be a baby. We can’t have it both ways. Murder a person carrying a “fetus” it’s double homicide, kill the baby before birth, it’s a choice.
Fact Check says
If you murder a person carrying a baby (I’ll use the term) that is younger than 21 weeks, it is only murder of the one person, over 21 weeks (in Maryland) then it is a double homicide. If you stab a woman carrying under 21 weeks and kill the baby, it is only attempted murder against the woman. Kinda sad no matter how you stand on the pro-life/pro-choice debate that someone else can choose to kill your baby and the State says it’s not a crime in itself.

Hey Fact Check,
“If you murder a person carrying a baby (I’ll use the term) that is younger than 21 weeks, it is only murder of the one person, over 21 weeks (in Maryland) then it is a double homicide. If you stab a woman carrying under 21 weeks and kill the baby, it is only attempted murder against the woman.” – Not entirely accurate. The statute regarding the homicide of a viable fetus is Maryland Criminal 2-103, which defines viable as what is stated in Health-General, 20-209, which states,
“In this section, “viable” means that stage when, in the best medical judgment of the attending physician based on the particular facts of the case before the physician, there is a reasonable likelihood of the fetus’s sustained survival outside the womb.”
I only did a cursory check of case law regarding this and did not find anything that specifies a particular week for a fetus to be viable.
“Kinda sad no matter how you stand on the pro-life/pro-choice debate that someone else can choose to kill your baby and the State says it’s not a crime in itself.” – There would still be assault/battery charges for the harm caused to the woman, and I think a case could be made that serious bodily harm was caused as well.
Anyways, have a nice day.
Fact Check says
Paul,
In a December 2011 case it was considered controversial for the prosecutor to try to bring a case against somebody for a baby that was killed younger than 21 weeks. But you are correct, the fetus has to be considered “viable” outside the womb.
But on the assault case, the killing of the baby itself is not the assault, it is only the harm done to the mother in the process which is why I said it’s not a “crime in itself”.
Paul Mc says
Hey Fact,
What was the case name? I would like to read it if you can recall the name of the case.
Thanks,
Paul Mc

Let us not judge, until ALL the facts are determined. We do not know the age nor the circumstances of the mother…yet! Maybe the mother has other issues. Maybe it was a teen and scared!
Otto Schmidlap says
Say what?
Bruce O'H. says
@FFFR61, I agree, and wish to state that my above comment was not meant to imply that I thought the young mother had aborted the fetus mentioned in the story. I take the term stillborn to mean by natural causes at this point.
My comment was aimed @DK, and I’m curious to see his response to it.
Rob says
I too was not commenting on the woman in this case, just the choice of wording between headline and article.
FFFR61 says
My comment was not meant to provoke or cause debate. It was just a comment, not directed at any particular person or comment. There is NOTHING here to debate. Until all the facts are in. Pro life or pro choice is not in question here…yet. It is a STILL BORN CHILD!
Sandy says
I see your point but a dead child was thrown in the trash? I can’t see any reasonable spin to make that OK. Scared teen, adult woman, nothing justifies throwing away a dead child. An innocent child deserves more respect than that.
Joe White says
It has not yet been verified that the baby was stillborn. Until the autopsy results are in, it should have been reported as a baby – period.
Bruce O'H. says
Now that you mention it, that is an excellent point.
