From Jim Thatcher:
Yesterday Martin O’Malley set the tone, opening the General Assembly with a proposal for increasing the State Sales Tax to 7 percent. This he proposed as an alternative to the 15% proposed increase in the state gasoline tax. I contend that unless held in check, they will attempt to do both.
Like the current US Administration and Congress, our state leaders look to increasing revenue rather than addressing out of control spending. Our current fiscal path, both in Maryland and nationally, is not sustainable, and our leaders do not have the political courage to stand up and end the spending madness. Wouldn’t it be refreshing for Mr. O’Malley, just once, to open an Assembly, setting the tone for fiscal responsibility without putting additional burdens on the taxpayers?….not likely to happen unless taxpayers demonstrate their outrage against these spending clowns.
Please talk to your representatives ASAP. They all can be found, from your local representation all the way up to the President, on the Harford County website under Contacting Elected Officials.
Thanks,
Jim Thatcher

It’s easier for O’Malley to raise taxes on all of us instead of sitting down and finding real solutions to cut the budget as many of us have done within our own budget. These suggested increases will affect every citizen including the citizens struggling the most to stay above water.

Kudos Kaz!!! O’Malley and his cronies have not proposed a single VIABLE solution to the tax and spend mess that THEY got us into in the first place.
I operate a small, family owned service business. I give my clients a 10% discount if they pay in cash. I encourage others like me to do the same. My “bank” is the safe hidden in my basement.

If you are proposing that business people should accept cash payments so they don’t have to report income and not pay income tax and steal the remitted sales tax then you are worse than the tax and spend liberal democrats. You are cheating the rest of us.
Cdev says
Then you seem to be advocating not paying taxes and perhaps should go to jail, directly to jail, do not pass go, do not collect $200!!!!
HYDESMANN says
The sad thing is that this is what the majority of Marylanders want,as seen by the last election.
Patrick Henry says
O’Malley was re-elected by the 3 counties that get all of the states money, not by the rest of us.

I can not find where O’Malley proposed raising the sales tax??????
