From the offices of Del. Rick Impallaria:
Annapolis Update Number One
January 11, 2012. First day back on the job.
Report on Governor O’Malley’s Priorities.
Plan Maryland. Plan Maryland claims to have four goals.
Goal 1. Achieve 90% new dwelling units in priority funding areas. What this is really doing is forcing people to live in urban communities, using tax dollars to subsidize the building of communities in areas where people don’t want to live and stripping property rights away from a large number of Marylanders by creating
new laws that make it impossible for cost-effective development or improvement of properties.
Goal 2. Restore the health of the Chesapeake Bay. In reality, the Chesapeake Bay will be used as a pawn to increase taxes and fees and once again impair the ability of Marylanders to enjoy and develop their personal property. The lion’s share of the money is being funneled into other projects which will produce no improvement in the
Bay and will continue the failed policies of the past 40 years which has shown no achievements in protecting the Bay.
Goal 3. Double transit ridership by 2020. Forcing people out of their vehicles into public transportation through numerous methods such as driving up the cost of fuel and fees attached to private ownership of vehicles to make it no longer cost-effective for the lower middle class to be able to afford ownership and use of their own
private vehicles.
Goal 4. Reduce Maryland’s greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2020. In short, this means implementing rules and fees that will drive even more jobs and more industry out of the State of Maryland.
Over my past 10 years in the General Assembly, I have seen all of these goals attempted in numerous ways but never have I seen them being joined together as one piece of legislation and being pushed so vigorously by the extreme left that represents Maryland citizens.
Sustainable growth and wastewater disposal is another of the Governor’s priorities. In short, its purpose is to eventually outlaw and ban all septic systems in the State of Maryland, which will strip property rights of people in rural areas to develop and enjoy their land, requiring that if the property owner even attempts to make improvements to their property, they will first have to replace their existing septic system with costly and unproven nutrient management systems. I do not see this as a good policy for the State.
Wind Energy. The Governor is once again pushing down the road to wind energy, which can only exist through subsidies, driving up the cost of energy for everyone in the State of Maryland.
Budget. They say that a 15-cent a gallon fuel tax is needed to replace the money that was stolen out of the transportation fund (which they plan to continue stealing out of the transportation fund even after a 15-cent tax is implemented). The good news is that the Senate President says that he wants to reduce fuel taxes by reducing the 15-cents a gallon tax to a 5-cents per gallon tax, but that still
sounds like a 5-cents a gallon tax increase to me, but apparently not to those who run the “Land of Pleasant Living.”
Gay marriage. Don’t forget the topic on the top of the Governor’s list — support of gay marriage. The gay marriage he said he did not support before the election, but now that the elections are over, he has changed his position and wants Maryland to fall in line with the few other states that have passed some type of gay marriage legislation.
I wish all of this was not true, but, sad to say, I believe this is without a doubt the worst General Assembly Session that I will have to participate in.
If you have any questions, or need any information on any of this legislation, please do not hesitate to contact my office and, as you probably have already judged by my statements, I will not be supporting the Governor’s initiatives for the 2012 General Assembly Session.
God help us all!

Again, you see progressives are winning and Impallaria conservatives are on the run.
Go get’em O’Malley, you are my hero. We are the 99%.
Bel Air Fed says
Will Rick and Nancy Jacobs have to vacate their current seats in a run for Congress?
Owe Malley – gotta love those rich I am the 99% – must be rich if they can say bring on higher gas prices, etc. Maybe they don’t work or have the luxury of living close to the job or just nuts.
anonymous says
If Del. Impallaria wasn’t such a jerk, maybe he could build a coalition to help temper and shape this legislation. Instead he’s the a** in the back of the room that no one wants to deal with. We’re wasting our influence and tax dollars sending this clown to Annapolis. No representation is better than what we have now.
Elsie says
If he can’t deal with it, he should get out now and quit wasting his time. It’s pathetic he doesn’t understand how important it is to MOVE FORWARD.
The world is constantly changing — our population is growing — and the importance of realizing the need to change and adapt to the needs of a varied multitude of citizens in order to provide EVERYONE in communities around Maryland with a halfway decent quality of life is apparently beyond Impallaria’s imagination. His views are selfish and self-centered.
Proud to be more Liberal says
Elsie is right. That Impallaria fellow is a tool of the 1% and he will want to lower taxes, eliminate subsidized wind power, reduce entitlement spending and further disenfranchise unauthorized immigrants if he is elected to Congress. The 99% need these government initiatives and more taxes from the elite so we can provide for the poor.
Viva la 99%.
Qualified says
Welcome to Maryland, The Fee State.
Kenneth A. Pittman says
I am a Republican. I don’t care for Governor O’Malley. But I am beginning to care even less for this classless embarrassment now reprenting me and my family in Annapolis. What a way to begin an intelligent political dialogue. I’m quite certain our delegation will walk away with even less this session. I am so sorry I voted for Mr Impallaria. It won’t happen again.
disgusted says
What needs to happen is we fire them all….make politicians have term limits across the board no matter what branch of Govt you fun for. Also force our politicians to have the same health care we have and no special “retirmenet” plan. Make them pay into social security. I think you would find, that things would get fixed in short order. Time for politicians to start representing the people that put them there.
HYDESMANN says
The new defination of insanity: Putting the same politicians back into office again and again and expecting different results ( remember the special session with the largest tax increase in history? )Many conservatives predicted this new call for massive tax increases and it’s certainly coming true. Why cut spending when all the Dems have to do is keep increasing taxes. And we, the suckers, keep taking it.
ALEX R says
Well, of course those of you who know me expect me to say “no new taxes”! SO I may as well say it with emphasis. NO NEW TAXES!!!
But if we can’t avoid new taxes because of the Dem/Lib super majority in Maryland then we might as well go for the gas tax they so desperately want.
Fortunately, I can afford it. Unfortunately, the less economically fortunate among us (who just hapento be those that the Dem/Libs say they are trying to help) can’t afford it. Too bad for them. Oh well, the ppor get the short end of the stick even in Maryland. Same tihng with the last sales tax increase. Hurt the poor most of all. Gotta hand it to the Dem/Libs, they really love those poor people.
Watcher says
I love how virtually everyone on this site paints the broadest strokes possible. Dem/Libs = tax and spend bleeding hearts. Conservative/Republican = heartless and soulless and favors rich over poor.
No wonder we are divided. We can’t even start a conversation on neutral ground.
Blink says
Delegate Impallaria makes sense and cares about his constituents. What you dislike about him is the sometimes flamboyant way he gets his point across. I’ll take someone like Rick any day over a politician who cares only about himself and his friends in high places while screwing the rest of us over. Keep fighting for the little guys, Delegate Impallaria!
Rohm says
Nice post Delegate
Cathy says
I am so glad that I left Maryland over 28 years ago and moved over the line to PA.We saw the handwriting on the wall after returning to Maryland from Florida and getting socked with income taxes after not having such a tax in Florida. With all the vehicles heading south during the work week, hundreds, if not thousands of Marylanders did the same thing and they keep coming. I think all of the Republicans moved up here as the Democrats have a hard time getting elected from this area.
Maryland has become the #1 liberal state in the country even ahead of Massachusetts. I was born and grew up in Maryland and still have many friends who live there, but I will never live there again.
Proud to be more Liberal says
You are a conservative scum who treat the less fortunate as disposable trash.
Cathy says
My husband and I have worked hard to achieve financial independence, and I see no need to support those who depend on the government generation after generation or to support illegal immigrants who have no business being in this country. Baltimore City used to be a wonderful city and look at it now. Many of the residents are on welfare, and those who are left are taxed to the hilt.
The government only uses people like you, and if you are stupid enough to fall for it, so be it. The really smart people vote with their feet and that’s what many Marylanders have done. Maryland’s economy is largely due to the government presence in the state and its proximity to Washington. Without that it would be in trouble. Maryland is not a business friendly state, and as it consistently raises taxes, more and more citizens will leave. New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, etc. are in trouble financially, and those states are filled with liberals like yourself who want more handouts from the government, and there are fewer and fewer people to pay for them. Many of the truly wealthy citizens are leaving those states for southern states where the taxes are lower.
decoydude says
@CATHY As a fiscal conservative, I have many issues with big, costly government and liberal positions. However, if you want a voice in our politics then move back to our state. As a descendant of one of Maryland’s earliest farm families, I take pride in my state. I have little respect for the views of someone who seems to enjoy reminding us how she and others fled rather than trying to change things for the better here. If our ancestors had followed your tactics, we all would still be paying taxes to England. Maybe, you should spend some time dealing with your own state’s issues. Last time I checked there was a rather sizable list.
Cdev says
Since you do not live in Maryland Cathy, your opinion is moot and pointless.
Engineer says
So, this is how a “Proud Liberal” debates?
Retiredawhile says
The post above from Proud TBML is the real view of those who only want to take from others, and reflects that they have nothing cogent to say. Sadly their numbers are many.
Proud to be more Liberal says
Retired you are just a selfish conservative who is against tax fairness and social justice. We are rich country and the wealthy should share more with the poor and needy.
Retiredawhile says
Tax fairness has nothing to do with helping the poor and needy, unless you mean that the Government should take more from the wealthy and give it to the poor.
President Obama wants the wealthy to pay more so the deficit can be reduced. Right? Or does he just want to give away money to the 99%?
Tammy says
We live in America….we have “equal justice”, not “social justice”.
PROUD TO BE LIBERAL says
no it is not
Patrick Henry says
More liberal needs to move to a different country, say USSR where everyone gets their fair share.
Cdev says
I know of no existing country called the USSR? perhaps you need to purchase a more current globe or map since yours is clearly 20 years out of date.
Proud to be more Liberal says
I think we all know that the President can’t come out directly to say we should tax the rich and redistribute the money, but I believe with the help of on the street Occupy activists fighting for tax fairness and social justice our President will be successful.
Let’s face it the wealthy have too much money and if we tax them we can use that money to help the less fortunate. These rich people are just hoarding money anyway.
Retiredawhile says
Why can’t the President just come right out and say that he wants to take money away from those who have earned it, and give it to the 99%?
What’s wrong with saying what you mean? I personally believe that Presidents should say what they mean. We need more truth, especially from our President!
Proud to be more Liberal says
The 1% used deception and trickery to gain their wealth.
Retiredawhile says
Yes, Senator John Kerry, D/MA, est. wealth 258 million, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D/CA, est. wealth 28 million, and others of their ilk, used deception and trickery to obtain their wealth, and they continue to do so. They deceive and trick you every day.
NeverCease2BeAmazed says
While SOME of the 1% may have used deceit and trickery to gain their wealth, making a blanket statement about all of them like this would be similar to saying ‘Liberals are tree-hugging hippies who do not like to shower.’ Such statements are never fair, and cannot be substantiated.
Fed Up says
Let’s not forget who made the rules for that “deception” – yes, your socialist pals in our Congress – controlled for the better part of 65 years by progressive socialists who have created a dependent class in the US. Remember – Dependents = votes and that’s what they’re all about.
