From ShopRite:
In 2011, ShopRite, the grocery store cooperative with stores in Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Connecticut, donated 40,000 cans of food to local food banks in commemoration of 40 years of its annual Can Can Sale. This included a significant delivery of cans to the Maryland Food Bank, to be sent to Food Banks in areas served by ShopRite stores.
The 2012 edition of ShopRite’s annual Can Can Sale begins Thursday, January 5 and runs through Saturday, January 21. This year, the sale continues the tradition of helping feed our neediest citizens, with a “Cans for Fans” program run through ShopRite’s Facebook page, thus enabling ShopRite fans to get involved individually in the fight against hunger.
Here’s how it works: during the month of January 2012, ShopRite will donate cans of food to local food banks in the communities it serves, including the Maryland Food Bank, on behalf of every fan on ShopRite’s official Facebook page — one can per fan, up to 50,000 cans!
ShopRite urges all its friends and fans to join in the fight against hunger and to help raise awareness of the importance of fighting hunger in our communities. Please visit http://www.facebook.com/shoprite.supermarket — the official ShopRite Facebook page — and “like” the page.
The more “Likes” that ShopRite receives, the more cans it will donate to those in need – it’s that simple!
ShopRite has also created a “Get Can Canned” website at http://www.ShopRiteCanCan.com. Here, visitors can upload a personal photo and become a virtual ShopRite Can Can dancer; the image can be e-mailed to friends, shared via a personal blog, Facebook or Twitter account, or posted to ShopRite’s official Facebook page!
ShopRite stores in Maryland include Klein’s ShopRite stores in Forest Hill, Bel Air, Festival at Bel Air, Aberdeen, Cardiff, Jacksonville and Riverside, with 2 additional stores under construction in Baltimore City and Baltimore County. Other ShopRite stores in the Baltimore metropolitan area include ShopRite of Timonium and ShopRite of Glen Burnie.
