Are they also going to post directions for those who are not technologically impaired?

There are published instructions for most readers. You can follow links from the library site to the MD library consortium where they provide the essential steps, depending on your reader. I would recommend however, just searching google for specific instructions from other users of your reader, who have probably encountered and overcome any complications.
New Kindles and most Android based readers can download directly from the web to the reader. Ipads can also probably do this. Android and many other tablets accomplish this via the Overdrive Media application.
B&N Nooks are more compilcated and required Adobe Digital Editions and your computer to check out books. Google provided me with clear perfect instructions to do this.
The library is going to have a major problem with keeping things in stock. I believe our local libraries pay to reserve a certain number of copies of books through the consortium, and most of the popular books have waiting lists 20-50 people deep– and that was before the holidays. I’m hoping the HCPL is already taking steps to address that issue.
Based on comment #2… doubt it.

Thanks everyone for the comments regarding ebooks and the library. Each library branch has an eBook station where customers can practice downloading and receive staff help. The library purchases copies of ebooks (just like we purchase print books!) in digital format through our statewide consortium. This is an exciting time for ebooks and we are constantly purchasing copies to add for our customers to check out. Susie, I would be happy to talk with your Dad to help with his Kindle. Keeping up with the new devices is a challenge but it is always fun to learn how to use the new gadgets. I haven’t seen the new Kindle Fire that just came out but I’m sure it is awesome.

I spoke to Margaret today from the Abingdon branch. She called to offer my Dad assistance to help him learn the new Kindle Fire. Apparently when my Dad got it the device was too new and there are so many devices out there for the staff to learn they just hadn’t had time to get to everything. My Dad is snowbirding in Florida so they are going to send my Dad the needed info for him to be able to download books using his Kindle. Margaret is also going to teach me how to download books onto my iPad. Thanks Harford County Library Staff!!!
