From the League of Women Voters of Harford County:
Gerrymandering, the movie, is an illustrated civics lesson that makes the complicated, shadowy subject of electoral redistricting into a political hot topic. The movie will be shown at 6:00pm on Tuesday, November 22 in Edgewood Hall Room 132 at Harford Community College.
Sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Harford County and the Political Awareness Association of Harford Community College, the movie is free and open to the public as part of an ongoing documentary film series.
“Right now, across the country, our two major political parties are gearing up for a once-a-decade war whose winner will control Congress for the next ten years, and possibly more. There will be battles in every state, and each will be kept carefully hidden from the prying eyes of average voters who only become more disenchanted with their government with each meaningless election. For the first time, Gerrymandering exposes the most effective form of manipulating elections short of outright fraud.
After the 2010 Census is finished, will you know where your district went? (from Gerrymanderingmovie.com)
Wayne Norman says
This will be a “must see” for me. Roscoe Bartlett has been my Congressman and represented northern Maryland for as long as I can remember. He was my Congressman when we went in to special session on a Monday and when we left Annapolis that Thursday, Roscoe was out of Harford. He now turns a hard right in Frederick and heads south into Montgomery County. Talk about hard ball politics…..I think the Governor had signed it in to law before most of us had even returned home that day. Thank you to the League of Woman Voters and the Political Awareness Association for sponsoring this event.
