Susan Burdette will take the Oath of Office Monday night along with re-elected incumbents Eddie Hopkins and Rob Reier, and will officially become a Bel Air Town Commissioner.
As Monday night will mark Burdette’s first in office, it will also be the final night as a town commissioner for Terry Hanley, whose recent legal troubles may have contributed to his poor showing in the election. Hanley placed last out of five candidates vying for the three commissioner seats.
Following the swearing-in ceremony Monday, the town commissioners will vote for who among them will serve as chair and vice chair of the Board of Commissioners, or the defacto town mayor and vice mayor. The commmissioners will also approve new liaison assignments.
The Bel Air Town Commissioners will hold a public hearing Monday on an amendement to the development regulations ordinance. The amendment would include a reference to the Special Development requirement for commercial projects exceeding 7,500 square feet.
Also Monday night, the commissioner’s will introduce an ordinance amending the town’s Adequate Public Facilities Code to “focus the intent of the ordinance, clarify the calculations, explain the applicability of provisions, and outline the exemptions to the requirements” and an ordinance amending the town’s Adequate Public Facilities Development Regulations to “clarify the responsibilities of the developer, refine the scope of the study area and expand upon the applicability of the ordinance.”
The town commissioners will also recognize a student from Bel Air Middle School.
The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in Bel Air Town Hall.
