From the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office:
Deputy State Fire Marshal’s are investigating the cause of a fatal fire that claimed the life of a male occupant. Conner Daniel McKeown (20) was located unconscious by firefighters and transported by ambulance to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Conner’s father, Kevin McKeown arrived at the home to find smoke and flames visible from the structure and called 911 prior to entering and trying to locate his son. He was assisted to the exterior by firefighters and was treated and released at the scene with minor burn injuries.
The 7:47 p.m. incident occurred at 2727 Greene Lane in Baldwin last night. A team of fire investigators has determined the fire originated in the first floor living room. The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time. Deputy Fire Marshals have determined the vacant two story wood frame dwelling did not have working smoke alarms. Approximately 50 firefighters from Harford and Baltimore Counties labored for almost two hours to control the two alarm blaze. Damages to the home and contents are estimated to have resulted in a loss of $100,000.
The cause of death of the victim will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Investigators from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office are assisting in the investigation.
Melody says
It wasn’t exactly a vacant home.
CDub says
What’s that supposed to mean?
Vinnygret says
It means the house had a person in it and thus wasn’t vacant.

Bingo! My thoughts exactly. When I read the blurb in my e-mail, I thought perhaps he was a squatter in a home in foreclosure. Very poor reporting on this one.
