“WE CAN’T MOVE HALLOWEEN, SO WE HOLD OUR COSTUME EVENT ANYWAY — NO MATTER WHAT!”
The weather forecast for Bel Air for Saturday, October 29, at 11 am, isn’t really very good, but we hold our Halloween Costume Parade, Contest and Trick-or-Treat at the Festival at Bel Air, no matter what.
In the 22 prior years this event has taken place, we’ve had at least 4 heavy rain days that I remember, and 2 or 3 really cold days that were just as challenging. Plus about 3 misty days that might have well have been rain! Another simple fact about doing outdoor one-day events in Maryland — this happens!
In these cases, in order to protect the children and make sure everything is as upbeat as possible, we use the PROTECTIVE ARCADES of the Festival, which are quite deep. We move our music and Ghost Host under the arcades, and line up everyone fully around the building that Chuck E. Cheese is in and that ExpressCare is in — there’s plenty of room, so the judging can still take place!
It’s perfectly OK to wear a coat over the costume — just take it off when the judging starts! Umbrellas are in style, too!
So — despite a VERY unusual forecast for October 29th, the 23rd Annual Festival at Bel Air Halloween Costume Parade is ON AS SCHEDULED! Including TRICK-OR-TREATING all the participating stores in the center until 2 pm!
