The Harford County Council will hold a public hearing Tuesday night on a bill which, as part of the One Maryland Broadband Network initiative, would extend and expand wireless Internet service in Harford County by use of Baltimore Gas and Electric Company telephone poles.
The bill would allow Harford County government authorization to execute a pole license agreement with BGE in an amount not expected to exceed $1 million to provide for placement of equipment on BGE’s poles for the construction and operation of an advanced telecommunications broadband network and to facilitate the provision of services under the One Maryland Broadband Network.
Public hearings will also be held Tuesday night for a bill to provide a 100% real property tax credit to property owned by Habitat for Humanity and a bill that would update the definition of a “lodging house” as a transient, non-permanent residence, which “shall include a lobby, a concierge, personal services, business center, pool and wireless Internet in the common areas.”
The county council will also hold public hearings on three resolutions, which concern surplus property at 605 and 607 Tollgate Road, the Water & Sewer Plan Fall 2011 Update, and an Economic Development Opportunity Loan for Automated Coatings.
Also Tuesday night, the county council is expected to introduce a bill regarding the Commission on Veterans Affairs, make an appointment to the Core Service Agency, and approve an executive appointment to the Commission for Women.

Clay Cassell says
We live in Pylesville near the Norrisville Fire hall and still don’t have any type of broadband made available (cable nor DSL). In a world were the broadband internet has become so vital (home businesses, video etc.). This would be a step in the right direction…
