From Harford County Public Schools:
The Homestead-Wakefield Elementary School (HWES) Parent Teacher Association (PTA) held its third annual Kindergarten Play Date on Friday, August 19, 2011. More than 100 kindergarten students and their families came to the Wakefield playground to meet their new classmates and future friends. Whiskers, the school mascot, made a guest appearance to welcome the littlest Homestead-Wakefield Wildcats! For two hours, the kid’s played on the playground, kicked balls, sang songs and enjoyed treats (more than 400 Freez-E-Pops, 15 gallons of fruit punch and countless bags of cookies!). Color-coded stickers were given out so the children could easily spot a new friend that would be in his/her class. After the children got to know each other for a little while, a hoola hoop was brought out for each class. As the kids held onto the ring, a paparazzi of parents had an opportunity to take their first “class picture.” It was a great way to ease our newest, anxious Wildcats (and their families) into the HWES family!
