From Harford Community College:
Harford Community College and Turner Construction hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion and renovation of HCC’s Susquehanna Center on August 23 for political and business leaders, student-athletes, and College employees. When renovations are completed in August 2012, the original 1968 athletic facility will double in size and increase opportunities for fitness, health and physical education for Harford Countians.
HCC President Dr. Dennis Golladay and HCC Board of Trustees Chair Bryan Kelly along with Turner Construction Project Manager Doug Belling welcomed guests. Harford County Executive David Craig, County Council President Billy Boniface, and State Senator Barry Glassman also made comments at the event.
The new facility will house a fitness center, multipurpose gymnasium, updated swimming pool, and rooms for dance, group fitness, and a variety of other physical activities. The focal point will be a 3,200 seat state-of-the-art arena that will serve as the home of Harford’s Fighting Owls basketball and volleyball teams. It will be available for a wide range of other events such as sporting events, graduations, concerts, trade shows, exhibits, cultural events, dances, inaugurations, and much more for the campus and community to enjoy.
The renovation offers naming opportunities which allow businesses to help the College increase opportunities for fitness and education, support building enhancements, sustainability initiatives, and provide funding for student scholarships; while individuals may pay tribute to a relative, friend, or colleague.
