From Baltimore Gas and Electric Company:
Utility holds open house to detail $9 million ongoing infrastructure improvements
Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) today outlined details of its electric service reliability project for residents of Forest Hill, Md. This project will enhance electric service to approximately 2,000 customers including roughly 300 who experienced extended outages during the July heat wave. Customers impacted by the recent outages live in communities generally bordered by Jarrettsville, Grafton Shop and Rock Spring Roads. The utility hosted an open house for residents today at Advent Lutheran Church on Rock Spring Rd.
“BGE’s efforts to improve electric reliability to our Forest Hill customers began more than a year ago with the planning and designing of new infrastructure, some of which was installed and put into service this summer,” said Jeannette M. Mills, senior vice president and chief customer officer for BGE. “BGE intends to be very visible in the Forest Hill area as this $9 million project continues into 2012. Today’s meeting was intended to help ensure our customers are aware of our plans and know what to expect both in terms of ongoing construction work as well as improved electric service reliability.”
The project will involve installing and upgrading equipment, both underground and overhead, which will enable the electric system to better support increased usage during periods of high demand. This project also incorporates new system redundancies, which gives BGE more flexibility in transferring service to alternate circuits when a problem occurs, reducing the duration of power outages.
BGE, www.bge.com, headquartered in Baltimore, is Maryland’s largest gas and electric utility, delivering power to more than 1.2 million electric customers and more than 650,000 natural gas customers in Central Maryland.
