From Maryland State Police:
Troopers from the Maryland State Police Bel Air Barrack responded to the 2200 block of Harkins Road (Maryland Route 136) just after 3:30 p.m. Thursday for a single motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2009 Toyota Highlander, driven by James Landerkin, 34 yoa, of Pylesville, MD, was traveling southbound Harkins Road prior to Amoss Mill Road. Investigators determined that Heather Greer, 14 yoa, from Pylesville, MD, attempted to cross the road when she was struck by the Toyota Highlander.
Landerkin was not injured in the collision. The 14-year old female pedestrian was flown by Maryland State Police helicopter to the R. Adams Cowley, University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where she died as a result of injuries sustained during impact.
The roadway was closed for approximately two hours while Troopers investigated the collision.
The collision is being investigated by TFC Dobbins and SGT Kloiber.
