From the Maryland State Police, Bel Air Barrack:
On Wednesday, 7/20/11 at 1:36 a.m., Trooper First Class Jon Sawa, Trooper First Class James Davis and Trooper Charles Smith of the Maryland State Police, Bel Air Barrack, were involved in two separate high speed pursuits of Harley Davidson motorcycles.
The pursuit began when TFC Sawa captured the two motorcycles on radar at a high rate of speed, northbound on the Route 1 Bypass, just south of Route 924 (Bel Air, Maryland). TFC Sawa and TFC Davis immediately initiated pursuit.
Upon approaching the intersection of Rt. 543 (Ady Road) in Bel Air, the motorcycles separated and TFC Davis continued to pursue one motorcycle northbound on Rt. 543 (Ady Road) and TFC Sawa continued northbound on Rt. 1 (Conowingo Road) joined shortly after by Trooper Smith. The pursuit involving TFC Davis ceased shortly after entering Rt. 543 when the 31-year-old male operator surrendered peacefully.
The operator being pursued by TFC Sawa/Tpr. Smith continued to operate the motorcycle in an erratic manner, weaving heavily, and remained traveling at speeds from 85 mph to 100 mph. During portions of the pursuit, TFC Sawa noticed that the adult male operator was reaching in his saddle bag and throwing small metal studs on the roadway in an apparent attempt to flatten the tires of his patrol vehicle.
An example of the motorcycle operator’s resolve to escape apprehension occurred as the pursuit continued across the Rt. 1 Conowingo Dam into Cecil County, Maryland, at a high rate of speed. During this point in the pursuit the operator was attempting to evade capture by driving/scraping against the concrete barrier of the dam on his motorcycle. Upon reaching the intersection at Rowlandsville Road, Conowingo, Maryland, TFC Sawa and Trooper Smith managed to successfully stop the motorcycle.
At the scene of the stop the motorcycle operator actually threw the Harley into TFC Sawa’s patrol vehicle. Upon being intercepted by the troopers, the operator, who fled on foot, became involved in an intense altercation with both troopers. The suspect attempted to seize the Department-issued firearm of TFC Sawa and also bit TFC Sawa on his right bicep. The troopers managed to successfully subdue the suspect after an extended altercation.
It was later determined that both operators in this pursuit were members of an Outlaw Motorcycle Gang. Both possessed tattoos consistent with OMG activity.
Below is a photograph of the metal spike that was thrown at TFC Sawa during this pursuit which can be purchased online.

Should have shot the pos when he tried to take his weapon. One less ahole on a sickle trying to kill the public is always a good thing.

If, instead of blowing smoke, you do a little research you’ll find that cops kill more innocent civilians than bikers.

How old are you, 13? These pigs aren’t just gunning down people you disapprove of. Sucking up to them on the Internet isn’t going to make you bulletproof when they kick down your door.

texrayb … sounds like you’ve had some experience with the police judging by your total disrespect for them. Maybe next time you need help you should call a firefighter ..(jerkoff)

I really want to meet TFC Sawa/Tpr. Smith at a bar, buy them a beer and let them tell the story in person. Seems like the right place for the retelling this kind of event and seems like they deserve a few cold ones from all of us.

This reminds me of an incident almost 30 years ago in the same spot. Me and a Bro opened ’em up going up the hill from Winters Run on the bypass. We were almost at the Roller Rink when one of Maryland’s Finest pulled us over. Didn’t have us on radar but knew we were cranking (and we were). Told us to chill out and we agreed. No ticket, no warning, nothing.
Why the 1%ers have to play out, I don’t know. Have fun with your 3 hots and a cot.

Unfortunatley outlaw bikers have begun to proliferate in our county. They branish their colors in contempt of traditonal values. Maybe the down turn in the economy draws people with ample free time to assemble and behave in such a manner.
Thank goodness no innocent motorist was involved, and the troopers were not seriously injured. The days of glorifying such conduct has passed.

Thank you to Trooper Sawa and and his back up officers for keeping the roads a little safer for my family! I believe in live and let live live but I also believe in respecting the law!!!! Thank you and I am glad you are safe!!!

Thank you to Trooper Sawa and unfortunately the biker did not get shot multiple times. it would have been unjustice if he would have died from his injuries. it would have been better to disable him, maybe paralyze him for life and make him suffer until he slowly dies. is that mean.lol

I don’t doubt that this happened. But if the bikers were in an OMG as the article put it – why not just state the name of the club? To just state “they both possess tattoos consistent with gangs” that is BS. Anyone can have tattoos that can relate to almost anything you want it to be and not mean the same thing. Anyone who is – as the saying goes – an Old School type biker would have many tattoos that might look like he was in a club but not have aything to do with one.
Flavius states: Why the 1%ers have to play it out? I didn’t read anywhere in the article stating they were 1%ers.Once again the article states the indication of ties to an Outlaw motorcycle gang (which should be club but thats another discussion).
Now the article is involving 1%ers when it never stated this. This is how the disinformation begins. Someone reads something interpets into their own meaning then spreads to thers like he wants it to read. then spreads to the next and on and on….. Invovling people that weren’t there and of course solidifying the reputation of 1%ers (which most people don’t really even know what it menas)

First : “Unfortunatley outlaw bikers have begun to proliferate in our county.”
What do you really know of these outlaw bikers? Are you saying they dont a have a right to live where they want. Have you even read in the local papers of so called outlaw motorcycle bikers being invovled in ANY crimes in this county.I read every day where the regular “Joe” is arrested for child abuse, drug dealing, drunk and disorderly and teh list goes on and on…. There has also been a few deputy sheriffs involved in some crime and arrested. Does this make them ALL bad people. In your mind they should ALL be moved out of the county for their misdeeds. And maybe so, thatswhy we have laws. Adn these people do move away – to a prison. IF THEY ARE CONVICTED OF A CRIME not because you think so.
Im glad this person doesn’t reflect on everyone. To make a statement that goes against the constitution of the United States, to make a judgement against the rights of everyone in this county is insane. A statement that “They branish (which by the way should be spelled “Brandish”) their colors in contempt of traditional values”!
REALLY!!! The contitution protects that traditional value. Where do you come from. How does an article about two idiots speeding down the road and one of them decides to ba a AHOLE a nd do something stupid. Yes he deserves what he gets.I just want to know how you can lump everyone together that wear colors and just make the statement that you did. Do you know any members of clubs personally or do you just read these idiotic comments, overhear other peoples statements or just watch stupid old movies to base your opinion. Of course its your opinion and thank god its only yours. There danger is when your opinion (without facts) spread like a cancer and destroy the basics values of what this great country was built on.
Please when reading article like the one everyone here has dropped a note on consider what your reading and what your going to write. The greatest part of our Country Consitution is the fact that you can write and say what you want. It just doesn’t protect us from your disinformation or what others would have you believe. Its always better to have all the facts (especially when even the news doesn’t give enoug of)then stating non truths.
