From the Harford County Sheriff’s Office:
On Saturday, July 16, 2011 at approximately 6:30pm, Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to an accident that had just occurred on I-95. The accident involved two vehicles in the on/off lane situated between Exit 77A-Edgewood and 77B-Bel Air on southbound I-95 under the Route 24 overpass.
Preliminary investigation determined that a 2001 Dodge Stratus, driven by Courtney Queen, age 27, of Owings Mill MD was traveling southbound in the middle lane of I-95, when she was cut off by an unknown vehicle causing her to loose control of her car, which spun out and stalled in the on/off lane under the Route 24 overpass. Unable to restart her car to move it out of the way of oncoming traffic, Queen exited her vehicle and walked safely to the right hand side of the highway.
Within minutes of Queen safely reaching the side of the highway, her vehicle was struck from behind by a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria, driven by on-duty Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputy, Sgt Thomas Gamble # 561. He was transported by Trooper 1 to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center for injuries sustained in the accident. As of 10pm this evening, he was alert and in good condition. Sergeant Gamble is a 12 year veteran of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office assigned to Special Operations of the Patrol Services Bureau.
Traffic was diverted on I-95 for approximately two hours for accident reconstruction and clean-up.
