The delay in publication of this report was due to an internal web server issue within the Harford County Health Department.

Seems like all the ‘violations’ are for the same thing (temp related.)maybe the dagger, or the health dept, could provide some detail; what are we to do with this info? are these places serving tainted food? should we shun them and drive them out of business? or is this a bogus, catch-all BS kind of charge? there are some pretty trusted names listed here, just how serious are these ‘violations’? is food poison rampant in harford county eateries? is the health dept insp. routine a lot of baloney? do they need to get their thermometers calibrated? i ate at two of these places last week, am i going to get sick and die?

OMG! Say it isn’t so! Magnolia Elem, N.Bend Elem, N.Harford Elem; “Potentially hazardous food – held @ proper temp?”
They’re serving our kids ‘hazardous’ food? And not even @ the right temperature? Who is responsible? How can we allow “hazardous” food to be shovelled out to our kids and make ’em eat it cold too? Or was the hazardous food not chilled properly or warmed to the ‘proper’ temp? What er, is the Health Dept. recommended proper temp for hazardous food? Is there a safe temp for ‘non-hazardous’ food? was that pizza I ate last week hazardous? I dunno, I’m beginning to feel a little green around the gills. . .

Folks don’t to upset about this your own kitchens would not pass these inspections. Even your fridges or freezers aren’t always at the right temps. Oh and how long does your hot food sit out while you eat dinner???

There were several public schools on the violations list for April, so The Dagger reached out to Gary Childress, HCPS supervisor of food and nutrition, for an explanation. Here’s his emailed response:
The violations noted were corrected immediately and were due to foods being held outside of the proper temperatures according to the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) protocols for those items. The HCPS Food Service Department consulted with the Harford County Health Department in implementing new procedures along with revised HACCP requirements. Since that time, a decline in violations has been noted. The safety of the students and staff was not compromised and that remains our highest priority.
The Big Picture says
The stock photo used with this posting each month is a little misleading. It looks like it was taken in NYC & it suggests that the infractions are much more serious. I can’t recall reading any of these reports where the business has been “closed”.
It does seem odd that all the charges are always the same. It’s hard to believe that nothing else is being cited. To see the same exact charge for over 20 inspections makes me question the process.

I agree with happygrannie….what everyone has to remember is that these businesses are held to STRICT guidelines as far as food safety. I currently work at one of these establishments. All of us eating daily at home would NOT pass these inspections in our own homes…we do not keep our hot foods at a certain holding temp at dinner time and our fridges are not kept at the same temp as we go in and out of them daily. And think about buying groceries and bringing them home…well if inspector stopped you on the way, you would fail because your food has warmed beyond our standards. At work we have to ensure proper temps are maintained at all times with no fluctuations keeping hot foods HOT and cold foods COLD. These violations could be noted due to a 1 degree difference…all done for your safety.
