Meet WAMD 970 AM radio personalities and writers and reporters from The Dagger as they broadcast live from First Fridays in downtown Bel Air this Friday, July 1.
The WAMD mobile radio van will pull into town around 4 p.m. and will be parked and broadcasting from the corner of Main and Office Streets in Bel Air.
Meet WAMD radio personalities Maynard Edwards, “Hollywood” Tricia, Steve Mann, Mike Parris, and a special guest appearance by the famous “Captain Jim”, a.k.a. Harford County Councilman James V. McMahan Jr. – a former longtime owner of the station and the voice of Harford County radio for decades.
Dagger editorial staff members will also be on the scene along with columnists Mark Elloff (Dagger Movie Night), Susan Kelly (Dagger Book Club), Jennifer Williams (Everything from Soup to Nuts), Tom Myers (Myers Moment) and John Henkel (Ears Wide Open) and others.
Grab some stickers, ask if we have any shirts left, and slip us confidential news tips in unmarked envelopes.
First Friday runs from 5-8 p.m. in downtown Bel Air.

What about the Mumbo?

Why is this news? Why is it the first daily dagger story? Let me know what’s on NPR and Fox News while you’re at it.
Tom Myers says
It is an opportunity for readers to meet the hard-working staff and contributors of the Dagger. I plan to be there along with the other writers, so stop by and say hello.
Terrance says
Hey Goodman, chew on these ideas to get more people out to see you.
Set up a dunking booth with Myers inside. Charge a dollar for three throws, with all proceeds going towards the rebuilding efforts of Friends Park. Tom, you can even wear your red 7-11 jumper so no one is put off by your frail, womanly figure.
My other idea was to have Tom tell jokes until people pay him to stop, but it’s not nearly as fun as the first one.
See ya then!
Brian Goodman says
Great idea. Tom may even be game for it, since it is for a good cause.
My idea was much simpler.
Dagger Shirt Giveaway – each shirt redeemable for an adult human tooth. Limit 6 per person.
Tom Myers says
Since “Terrance” would have trouble pulling himself away from the computer where he can enjoy anonymity, it would benefit no one. Wait. “Terrance” is a “no one.” So it would benefit no one even if he *did* show up. Regardless, whenever one of his posts appears on here, I smell ham burning.
Big Nate says
Yo Terrance! What’s the deal with dissing Myers ad nauseuem?
You know, I may not agree with him on everything politically or even get some of his jokes, but I think he’s an awesomely funny guy. I bet if you talk to him for two minutes, you would see that. Get your head out of your ass, dude.
By the way, does anyone notice how Terrance and Fatty Pockets only comment on articles where the TM is mentioned? I find that kinda creepy.
Brian, I’m a longtime reader and I am posting my first comment on this website. I love your site. Keep up the good work, Brian, Cindy, Aaron, Mark Elloff, Susan Kelly, Jennifer Williams, and John Henkel. And a big thank you to Tom who was nice enough to talk to me the weekend he was at Magooby’s. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Tom Myers is a nice guy.
Maybe I’ll see you at First Fridays.
Nate
Terrance says
Hey Tom, next time you use an alternate name to defend yourself, at least let a half hour pass before your original post. You’re making it too obvious!
Big Nate says
This isn’t Tom, dick. It’s a better likelihood that you and “Fatty” are the same person.
Brian Goodman says
See you guys tomorrow.
Posthaus says
Since when did Bel Air start having “First Fridays”, can these folks ever come up with an original idea on their own?
Tom Myers says
Owing to my schedule, I will be unable to make First Fridays today. Brian, I hope you can get your deposit back on the dunking booth 🙂
Fatty Pockets says
Big Nate/Tom,
I’ve never met Terrance in my life. I couldn’t pick the guy out of a line up. And the only contact we’ve ever had has been through The Dagger. If our writing styles are the same it because jokes about Tom are so easy that they write themselves.
Never met the guy, though one of these days I may buy him a slurpee.
Brian Goodman says
It was a nice night in Bel Air – weather was great, music was good, and only got randomly cussed out by one dude (ps – we know who you are)!
Thanks to everyone who showed up to hang out, including, but not limited to:
Bill, Libby, Trish and Mike Parris, Maynard Edwards, and Steve Clendenin from WAMD.
Dagger contributors Julia Bopst, Susan Kelly, Jennifer Williams, Mark Elloff, and John Henkel.

I hope to see all the shirts and stickers we handed out put to good and immediate use!
Mommie Dearest says
The Dagger did a great job last night. There was a ton of walk-up traffic and everyone had a fun time. Even the old freak with the greasy hair who thought he was so cool that he had to drop the f-bomb out loud into a crowd of families with children couldn’t spoil an awesome night in Bel Air. Hope to see you guys at other Harford County events. GO DAGGER!
Ron Chapman says
This post has me rollin’ ….poor Tom lol
Todd Holden says
the whole thing Friday, First Friday in Bel Air, was lame…lame anonymous blasting and slamming folks who use their real names…lame when Jimmy Welch offered to buy me a beer in the ‘gated, guarded beer garden’ at 8:05 and we were told ‘no more beer after 8’…all of it lame, except for the good folks i saw along the way in and way out. Bel Air is no Havre de Grace…where things are a little more laid back.
Phil Dirt says
Yeah, damn those people who know how to use them newfangled wrist watches! Don’t they know that they should make an exception for you!
Scott T W. says
@Posthaus – Bel Air started First Fridays in Harford County. It’s not an original idea, for sure. There are 23 Maryland Main Streets and I’m pretty sure most of them host some version of First Fridays.
@Todd – Sorry you didn’t enjoy our First Fridays. I’ve been to HdeG’s and I enjoy their version too. I don’t think it would be too much fun for folks in Harford County if our versions were the exact same.
Thanks for stopping by!
