From the Harford County Public Library:
The Harford County Public Library’s summer reading program “One World Many Stories” kicks off Monday with a pair of events.
Each year the Summer Reading Program kicks off with a flurry of activity as hundreds of young readers rush to register. Last year more than 18,000 children and teens signed up for the program, which offers registration and completion incentives and free programming throughout the summer.
This year the festivities include a Pre-School Fun Day for our youngest readers and a LEAP: Learn Explore and Play Science Is Fun! Science Fair with kit demonstrations by local scientists. The events run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday.

I would like to comment about the superior nature of the public library system in Harford County. I typically use the Fallston Branch, that I actively worked to save, and enjoy the proximity and cooperative nature of the staff. I put lots of books on reserve and appreciate the ease of the process.
Recently I was in Edgewood and stopped at that branch to check it out. Unfamiliar with the layout, I wandered a bit to find the section I wanted, and was pleasantly surprised to have a staff person approach me and offer to assist.
I lived in Baltimore City for many years and spent countless hours at the Pratt flagship library downtown. Never once was I ever approached to offer help. Sometimes I also felt I was really putting staff out by insisting on checking out books.
There are many reasons I enjoy Harford County but the library system ranks near the top of my list.
