From Harford County Public Schools:
Electric Violinist Mark Wood, formerly from Trans Siberian Orchestra, will be returning to Youth’s Benefit Elementary School this year to share his talents and compose the “Electrify Your Strings Orchestra.” On June 6 and 7, 2011, he will work with the Youth’s Benefit Elementary and Fallston Middle string students to compose an orchestra rock concert that will be performed at Fallston High School on June 7, 2011. This is always an amazing concert, and Mr. Wood is a wonderful teacher, musician and role model to all students. Mr. Wood is an accomplished musician who has played with Billy Joel, Celine Dion, Lenny Kravitz and Paul McCartney, just to name a few. Recently, he has been featured on The Today Show, as well as many other local television and radio shows as he tours the United States and performs with young students.

Mark Wood’s annual show is phenomenal! Many thanks are in order to those that organize and fund this multi-faceted extravaganza. A second show must have been added this year since in the past Mark and Company only had one appearance. Mr. Hertzog, a great musician in his own right, teaches music at YBES. He originally brought Mark Wood to our area, with funding provided by the YBES PTA. Fallston Middle’s PTA must have decided to share Mark’s talent with their kids. Liz Antwarg, another great music teacher from FMS probably had a hand in this positive decision. Again, my family offers a huge THANK YOU to Mark Wood and all the participants who make this annual event possible. The show, which is a culmination of the students attending a workshop with the virtuoso, rocks out and is way cool!

This is certainly an honor for the residents, students and teachers of Fallston as well as the earliest of the educational institutions that I attended: YBES and Fallston Middle. Congrats all around!
