From the Office fo the State Fire Marshal:
As a three year veteran of the Office of the State Fire Marshal, Oliver J. Alkire has quickly proven himself to be a valuable asset to the Northeast Region which includes Harford and Cecil Counties.
During 2010, Deputy Alkire has served in the capacity of lead investigator for approximately 185 investigations and has assisted other members of the agency on approximately 30 investigations. In 2010 Deputy Alkire led the Northeast Region and was the second highest in the agency with a total of 72 investigations. Of those 72 investigations, 38 were determined to be criminal cases. Through his hard work Deputy Alkire was able to achieve an arrest closure rate of 62%. Additionally, he achieved the third highest ranking for a post-blast qualified investigator by performing 11 explosive investigations. All 11 investigations were closed by an arrest.
In 2010, DFM Alkire led the sworn members of the Northeast Region by performing 105 fire and life safety inspections of various occupancy classifications.
These inspections help to ensure Marylander’s safety when in commercial establishments. DFM Alkire also believes in giving back to the community; he has represented the agency in various non-profit sports activities such as: Howard County Police Pace, Maryland Transportation Authority Tunnel Run and Maryland State Police Special Olympics Torch Relay. Through all of these activities he is promoting the agency in a positive way with the great citizens of Maryland and with other state and local law enforcement agencies.
As a regional award winner, Deputy Alkire will be nominated for recognition as the statewide Deputy State Fire Marshal of the Year for the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
The agency award will be presented at the Maryland State Firemen’s Convention held in Ocean City, MD in June.
