Harford Community College Student Sarah Swatski Named 2011 Coca-Cola Silver Scholar

Harford Community College is pleased to announce that HCC student Sarah Swatski has been named a 2011 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Silver Scholar. Sarah received a certificate, silver medallion, and a check for $1,250. Selection was based on scores earned in the All-USA Community College Academic Team competition.

The Coca-Cola Scholar program is sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and is administered by Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society. This year, more than 1,600 community, technical, and junior college nominees competed for the All-USA Community College Academic Team. All scholars were listed in an April 11th issue of the USA TODAY newspaper.

Sarah, who is majoring in mathematics, has served as Harford Community College’s Public Relations Vice President for the Rho Beta Chapter of PTK since the fall 2010 semester. According to PTK Advisor Chris Jones, “Sarah has demonstrated exemplary leadership, fellowship and service as a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Her outstanding commitment to Phi Theta Kappa activities such as our Adopt-A-Road, Project Graduation, Movie Nights and Induction Ceremonies demonstrates her willingness to selflessly serve the College and our community. Sarah has been a truly wonderful student and I know her success at Harford Community College will carry on to her future academic and occupational endeavors.”

A member of the Student Government Association, Sarah has served as a Student Ambassador, and President of the Vowlunteers Club. She has participated in numerous volunteer programs including Adopt-A-Road Cleanups, the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, the Care Night Soup Kitchen, and Habitat for Humanity. Sarah plans to transfer to University of Maryland Baltimore County to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics.
