Secret Garden Tour and Oyster Wars Lecture this May at Havre de Grace Maritime Museum

Saturday, May 14th ~ 10 am – 6 pm

SECRET GARDEN TOUR AND SHOW ~ In Memory of Brenda Guldenzopf:

Get a head start on the day by taking part in the hour-long Guided Walking Tour of the North Park Loop Trail at 10 a.m. Meet at the Susquehanna Lock House. Tour conducted by volunteer, Bob Magee.

We have seven private gardens on the tour. Each garden is unique and they range from the formal to the quirky! The gardens will also encompass the geographical borders of Havre de Grace from the waterfront to pastoral areas. Garden Tours from 1 – 5 p.m.

Additionally there will be a Garden/Art Show at the HdG Maritime Museum’s Pavilion and grounds from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Artists/crafters/and educators will inform and delight. Learn about Edible Wild Plants, ask questions of a Master Gardener, buy honey products or learn about Bees, enjoy viewing hand-made jewelry and other crafts and take a treasure home, understand what goes into the making of botanical soaps, and watch a sculptor at work creating a garden statue.

Guided tour of North Park Loop Trail, and the Garden/Art Show at the Maritime Museum are free to the public. Tours of the private gardens require tickets which are $15 in advance, or $20 day of event. Tickets are available from the HdG Visitors’s Center, Amanda’s Florist, Melanie’s Garden Florist, Kroh’s Nursery and the HdG Maritime Museum.

Wednesday, May 25th ~ 7 pm

LECTURE: “The Oyster Wars” by Gregory Bartles

The Oyster Wars were a series of sometimes violent disputes between oyster pirates and authorities and legal watermen from Maryland and Virginia in the waters of the Chesapeake Bay and the Potomac River from 1865 until about 1959.
