The Bel Air Board of Town Commissioners will continue work Monday night on what has now been a six-month process to reconfigure local zoning law to allow for fortune telling practices to operate under specific conditions.
On the agenda Monday night are clarifications to the town’s fortune telling ordinance, which state that such a business may not be located closer than 1,000 feet from any school property line or an existing fortune telling business; and that the Board of Appeals may limit the hours and scope of the operation.
Also during Monday night’s meeting the town commissioners are expected to make an appointment to Economic & Community Development Commission and recognize Jonathan Duvall, an 8th grade student at Harford Day School.
The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in Bel Air Town Hall.

JB says
Re #6-7: Oh puh-lease! There are much more important things they should be dealing with besides fortune-telling!
frankly speaking says
JB-the city has to pass a constitution compliant ordinance as the current law does not address these businesses specifically and does not meet Constitutional standards…sometimes govts have to work on things that seem not needed but jurisdictions must comply with state and federal laws.
Clay says
If people are obedient to Christ then fortune telling ordinances arent necessary because they wouldnt be able to operate without customers. Fortune telling is satanic. The devil may tell you something that may come true but he doesnt want you to know the whole picture. For example, a fortune may say, “your love will be unrequited when you return to someone after a long absence.” So what would someone say if this happened to them? “Well that dirty so and so, the next time I get that fortune I wont even try to see my old buddies again.” What would the bible tell us? When you see friends and former friends, let them know what a changed person you are. Tell them how Christ changed you forever. Witness to them and encourage them with Christ. If they dont return your love, dont worry. Anyone accepting Him will show your their love and appreciation. I once heard a story of a woman who had her fortune told and the fortune teller told her to put out a ten dollar bill. The fortune teller then snatched up the bill and told her that she had to keep it or else something bad would happen. Some of them dont even do a good job for satan. Ouija boards are the same.

clay-zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Spare me the sermon please. Satanic story tellers? Interesting, since Satan played a major part in the Bible and the Church has been using it for their advancement for centuries. In a free society these businesses should have the same right to conduct their business as churches and bible stores do. Evil is within us, not sold in a tarrot card.
Clay says
Well, as it is with music, if it doesnt worship God it works for the other guy. That is certainly true when it comes to comparing the fortune telling way of seeing the future and praying about a matter and asking others to do the same.
separation of church and state says
Clay, are Jews and Muslims criminals/outlaws because they don’t worship your god? You sound like a bigoted zealot and I don’t think Jesus is down with that. I would rather NOT have the fortune tellers -because I think that they’re crooks, but I’d defend there right to to exist against someone as scary sounding as you any day. God bless you (and everyone else too!).
