Harford County Economic Outlook Set for June 14; Will Focus on Creating “Technopolis”

How Harford County can become a “Technopolis” is the topic of the Harford County Economic Outlook on Tuesday, June 14, from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at Maryland Golf and Country Clubs, 1335 East MacPhail Road in Bel Air.

Pike Powers, who led the establishment of the technology-driven economic development of Austin, Texas, will discuss how government, business and education united to bring about a technology hub in Austin. Joining the conversation about how to transfer that success to take advantage of Harford County’s resources will be Harford County Executive David R. Craig and Major General Nickolas Justice, APG senior mission commander and RDECOM commander.

A “technopolis” in Harford County would stimulate regional job creation resulting from research and product development initiatives at Aberdeen Proving Ground and nearby educational institutions. Startup and established businesses in the area would link with research to develop new products and create jobs that would benefit Harford County and beyond.

“With BRAC, Harford County is positioned to become a cyber security hub in the region,” said County Executive Craig. “Pike Powers led Austin to its success in becoming a technology hub. His insights coupled with the resources Harford County already offers will position our area to become a technology leader on the East Coast.”
