A Bel Air man is charged with attempted murder and assault after he allegedly fired a shotgun at his Calvary Road neighbor on Saturday.
Henry H. Harjes, 49, of the 1900 block of Calvary Road was charged following an altercation with his 44-year-old neighbor just after 6 p.m. Saturday.
According to the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, Harjes’ neighbor found him driving his vehicle in “a dangerous manner” in the common area between their two residences. Harjes pulled into his garage and the neighbor began walking the 75 yards toward Harjes’ home, at one point yelling, “The speeding needs to stop.”
Harjes disappeared into a detached garage unit and reappeared with a shotgun. Police said he racked the shotgun and, as his neighbor fled, fired. The neighbor told police he heard two shots and felt what he believed were projectiles hitting the ground near him. He was not hit by the blast and reached the safety of his home, from which he called police.
Harjes was taken into custody without incident. Deputies found a 12-gauge shotgun, 86 12-guage shells, and a 30.06 rifle on his property. Harjes told police he had been hunting on his property and didn’t know why his neighbor said Harjes was shooting at him.
Harjes is currently imprisoned at the Harford County Detention Center.

Hunting at this time of year? Hmmmmmm. What was the prey, a species of “neighbor?” Does this require a special stamp on a hunting license? What weaponry may be used during neighbor hunting season?
Let’s see according to MD Judiciary Case Search, on 3/15/11 a person by the name of Henry Herman Harjes III was served with a temporary Protective Order for Domestic Violence. The above neighbor hunting incident occurred 3/15/11. On 3/16/11, someone by the name of Henry Herman Harjes had a divorce filed against him.
Does anyone have additional info?
