The following testimony was presented by Tom Myers to the Harford County Council during its February 15 session. A copy was provided to The Dagger for publication:
Thank you, President Boniface, [and] members of the Council. My name is Tom Myers. I am a resident of Fallston, Maryland, and in light of the statements I’m about to make, I should mention, in full disclosure, that I am a member in good standing of the Young Democrats of Harford County.
In the movie “Inherit the Wind,” when Spencer Tracey, playing an attorney for a man on trial for teaching evolution, warned of the dangers of fanaticism and ignorance and suggested that the real danger was not of the teaching of evolution, but of the dangers of having bigots crucify those who bring enlightenment and intelligence to the human mind, the judge replies, “I hope counsel does not mean to imply that this court is bigoted.”
Spencer Tracey replies, “Well, your Honor has the right to hope.”
If the Republican Party wants to say that they are for openness and transparency and that they want to ensure that the rights of all people are defended, then I will be the first to stand with them on that comment. However, if they continue to raise any objections to having Democrats on the county’s redistricting commission, then they certainly have the right to HOPE, as Spencer Tracey said, that they speak for all of their fellow citizens.
They do NOT have the right, however, to continue to publicly say so and keep a straight face.
Simply put, with all due respect to the Republican Party in Harford County, they have shown this past week that they are not a party committed to keeping their promises to the voters of Harford County. The Republican Party has shown that they are only out for themselves and to hell with the concerns of their neighbors of a differing political philosophy. To them, freedom of expression only applies to those who agree with them and can meet every standard in their strict criteria to fit into their ideological tent.
To hear the talk of the Republicans openly opposed to opening the redistricting commission to include Democrats, you would think that anyone registered as a Democrat is not active and does not care enough to come out and have their voice heard at the polls. In fact, the opposite is true.
Voters came out to return Mr. Guthrie and Ms. Lisanti to the District A and F seats on this Council, respectively. The Democrats of this county returned Mary-Dulany James to the House of Delegates District 34A seat and elected (albeit a Non-Partisan candidate) Cassandra Beverley to the District B seat on the Board of Education. And lest we not forget, the county at large voted to return Jesse Bane to the office of Sheriff.
I submit to the Council and any member of the public listening in Chambers or on the Harford Cable Network that the Republicans, while opposing the inclusion of any Democrats on the redistricting commission, have for the past two years been vocal about one-party control of the 111th Congress, even though they had adequate representation and still had an effect on legislation and have also, for as long as I can remember, complained about Democratic control of the State House. Why are they vocal about what goes on in Washington and Annapolis, but quite content with something similar going on in Bel Air?
And I have to take issue with a couple of statements made by Messrs. [Tim] Impallaria and [Tony] Passaro about how rules can’t be changed. I guess they forgot there’s a reason that we have twenty-seven amendments to the United States Constitution. It’s because our founding fathers and our subsequent elected leaders recognized that laws do in fact need to be changed from time to time. For instance, thanks to those amendments, we now have the right to freedom of speech, slavery has been ended, women and blacks have been given the right to vote, we can now directly elect our United States Senators and anyone over the age of eighteen years of age can vote, regardless of their gender or race now.
Republicans should stay true to their words during their campaign from this previous year and do what is right for the entire county and not for the select few or your ideological brethren. Representative democracy was essential to the founding of the United States of America, as many Republican candidates have stated throughout their campaigns last year. I submit the importance of representative democracy also holds true for Harford County.
I expect no less than the best from those elected to serve, not the interests of their party, but of ALL people.
Whatever Republicans think of Democrats, and vice versa, registrants of both parties do vote, both parties wish to have their voices heard and both deserve representation in the redistricting of Harford County.
At least, to paraphrase Spencer Tracey, we have the right to hope.

Rob In Bel Air says
Tom Meyers,
Now you know how it is for the Republicans in Annapolis where Democrats rule the kingdom and do everything they can to “crush” the Republicans (comment made by Mike Miller – Senate President).
pizzle says
Are you implying that there were NO Democrats on the council for all this time that the charter was outdated by new electoral rules? If not, then isn’t it fair to say that BOTH parties had the opportunity to “change the law” and amend the charter before this all came to a head?
As for our form of government, we are a Republic, not a Representative Democracy. Look up the difference between the two here: http://tinyurl.com/4m8ycto
Clearly, you are someone that just likes to hear himself talk. And I, for the second time, have responded to your inane comments. I only have myself to blame.
Bob says
If nothing else, Rob’s comment demonstrates that *all* – Democrat and Republican – politicians are in it for themselves.
It is a wonder I vote at all….a vote for the lesser of two evils is still a vote for evil.
I’m starting to see cracks in the “If you don’t vote, you don’t have a right to complain” argument. I’ve never skipped an election and realize the right to vote is treasured….but at least those in third-world countries stuck with corrupt leaders didn’t choose them.
Perhaps in the next election, my vote will be for none of the candidates.
“Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save.” – Psalm 146:3
Bill in Baltimore says
at least Mr. Meyers is trying to do the right thing. He’s passionate about doing the right thing, good for him.
But he’s been brainwashed into thinking that emotion equals doing the right thing.
The entire argument about Democrats being shut out of the redistricting plan is fallacious. Read the law, Mr. Meyers.
It was obvious this young man is deluded when his opening line was to use “Inherit the Wind” as a justification for “standing up for right against bigots”.
– Inherit the Wind is a fabrication of the truth, designed with one purpose in mind – to discredit all Christians as lunatics. You can look it up.
So Mr. Meyers, I applaud you for getting involved and for being passionate about doing the right thing. But your logic is flawed.
Tom Myers says
I’ll take the logic that leads to my beliefs over the logic that leads to you not spelling my name correctly when it’s in the title of the article upon which you are commenting.
Bill in Baltimore says
Tom, this is a blog, not the Supreme Court.
oh, and you used this phrase incorrectly: “you’re username is “Brain”. I’m sure you realize it’s “your”.
passion is good, if it’s got a good foundation. I wish you were on our team.
Tom Myers says
Note my correction. I made two, actually. I guess you’re too busy trolling to look ’em up.
And you actually expect to get away with making comments about my piece and I’m not going to respond? Remember, Bill: this is a blog, bot the Supreme Court. 🙂
Bill in Baltimore says
Tom, perhaps you should stop lashing out at minor spelling errors and focus on the issues ? That’s how the left works: deflect and demonize.
Perhaps you’re wrong on the redistricting issue. It’s good you take the time to participate, but really, if the Dem’s were worried about this, shouldn’t they have worked to change the law previously, not when it hits them in the face ?
And seriously, I mean seriously, if the tables were turned, would the Dem’s say “Oh, yeah, let’s let them in, we’ll be nice”. I think not, not for one second. (But the Repubs wouldn’t whine like you guys, they would, uh, win elections).
Tom Myers says
Bill~
No one read the charter before the past election. Not Democrats, not Republicans, not the members of the Council. Nobody.
If you’re so concerned about how the Dems “whine,” then how do you explain the Tea Party protests when the Democrats had control of the White House as well as both Houses of Congress? And how are you going to justify an answer about how they have the right to protest without acknowledging that the unions protesting in Wisconsin essentially have the same rights. Your anti-Democratic sentiment doesn’t fly with me, nor does it lead to logic.
BTW, It’s easy to win elections when you run unopposed in the General. So don’t thump your chest with pride. You don’t hear Dems bragging about Doug Gansler’s 2010 results.
Yeah but says
yeah, but his results in ’06 were impressive
Yeah but says
Yeah, but aren’t all Christians lunatics?
Porter says
@Tom Meyers wrote “It’s because our founding fathers and our subsequent elected leaders recognized that laws do in fact need to be changed from time to time. Republicans do not object to amending rules/laws, however you don’t want to amend the redistricting process you want the rules to be discarded and ignored. The rules were well known to both parties.
WTF? says
If the roles were reversed, does anyone think that for even a second that the Decocrats would offer the Republicans a seat at the table out of the kindness of their hearts? NOT A CHANCE! This should be a learning experience for the Democratic party.
hydesmann says
I believe the Dems helped to write the rules Mr. Myres is whining about. Face it, they fell asleep on the job and are now trying to repair their mistake.
Tom Myers says
“Myres”? What, did you fall asleep at your keyboard?
WTF? says
The Decocrats did, they probably thought that Harford County would become more of a stronghold for them, that’s why it was written that way. The problem is that it backfired on them. It’s entirely their own fault.
Phil Dirt says
This was so serious that I thought I was reading one of Tom’s stand-up routines.
Tom Myers says
This is exactly the kind of substance I would expect for someone who’s username is named after the stuff that’s in between his ears. (“Fill dirt.” I get it.) Maybe when you’re username is “Brain” I can take your posts more seriously. And maybe they’ll actually be funny.
Tom Myers says
*whose (not who’s)
Tom Myers says
*your (not you’re)
Phil Dirt says
No, my posts could never be as funny as your political commentary, but I’m not trying to make a living at comedy.
At least (according to the signs I see along the road) Phil Dirt is wanted.
Tom Myers says
No. Fill Dirt is wanted. As far as I can tell, you are not, Gomer.
Phil Dirt says
Hahahaha! Please stop, you’re killing me! Hahahaha! My sides are hurting…
Tom Myers says
Phil~
Your massive ego is located in your sides?
Yeah but says
yeah, but aren’t you joe’s brother?
Tom Myers says
I’ll take the logic that leads to my beliefs over the logic that leads to you not spelling my name correctly when it’s in the title of the article upon which you are commenting.
RhinoHunter says
Hey Tom Myers,
No need to thank Democrats for electing “hug a thug” pro big union pay Jesse Bane. You can thank David Craig and his Rino buddies like Billy Boniface, Capt Jim McMahon, Dale Neepr, and Dagger’s own Todd Holden (although don’t know what Holden’s political status is).
David Craig and his political committee (all paid for by Harford County Taxpayers) were the primary reason Bane was elected. David Craig’s deep attachment to Public Unions (Sheriff’s Office and Teachers Union) in Harford County will only hurt Harford County in the end.
Billy Jack says
Bane was reelected because more people voted for him. Period. Get over it.
RhinoHunter says
Bane was elected because of David Craig & Big Union Money, pure and simple. The Union paid for Bane’s signs and the Union staffed the polling places the day of the election.
David Craig & Jesse Bane will pay back the Union through higher pay raises and outrageous retirement benefits.
Yeah but says
Yeah, but why isn’t craig’s son in the house of delegates if he has such power over elections?
RhinoHunter says
Does anyone know whether David Craig was once registered as a Democrat?
Pontificator says
hmmm, not sure… I know Ronald Reagan was a former Democrat.
Tom Myers says
… who raised taxes 6 out of the 8 years while he was President and tripled the debt. Funny how you never hear that in GOP talking points.
Sarah says
David Craig has never been a registered Democrat.
Terrance says
Alternative title: “Guy who works at 7-11 and still lives with his mother talks at council meeting.”
Did anyone happen to see this on HCN? I’d like an update on Myers’ rapidly receding hairline. He doesn’t exactly look the part of a “young democrat” these days.
Tom Myers says
Alternative title: “Another sad anonymous troll who doesn’t have the cajones to face people with whom he disagrees head-on comments on an online piece.”
no name says
Wow, hypocritical. In PG and Montgomery counties, they kicked republicans out. And to Rhino hunter, im curious…jealous you never got elected as county executive??
Fatty Pockets says
You can always count on cry-baby liberals to whine and complain that the rules aren’t fair when they aren’t winning.
Despite what you think Tom. No one owes you anything.
By the way Terrance. I had the misfortune of sitting through the whole HCN broadcast. And I’ll just say this. Toms hair line isn’t just receding. It’s in full on retreat. His forehead has won the battle and is rapidly gaining ground.
Tim Impallaria says
Mr. Myers you expressed to me at the meeting and in your above letter about amending the Constitution of the United States. You made it sound that amendments can be offered and changed in an instance. There have been 33 offered and only 27 have been enacted (include Bill of Rights into the 27) since this outdated document was established. Outdated document is what Democrat’s call it when the Law, charter, or rule doesn’t fit their view. Here is what you need to amend the Constitution.
• Two-thirds of both houses of Congress vote to propose an amendment, or
• Two-thirds of the state legislatures ask Congress to call a national convention to propose amendments.
So as you can see it takes time and effort to make change, just like it will take to change the charter. We can see by the effort in the past election of Wendy and her committee, they are not committed to giving much effort. Tom you seem to be energized and you may be what your party needs to right the ship. I respect your conviction and enthusiasm but do not believe that the Council could do other then what the law allows.
Tom Myers says
Tim~
That doesn’t override that I corrected something you said about how laws can’t be changed. Yes, it’s only been done 18 times (figuring we count the Bill of Rights as a one-shot deal) in our country’s history. And in each of the instances I cited (freedom of speech, ending slavery, women and black people can now vote, election of U.S. Senators and the lowering of the voting age to 18), those were constitutional amendments I was citing.
Tim Impallaria says
Twist, Twist, Tom. I never said laws can not be changed, that was your assumption. I said Charter had to be followed because that was the law set at this time. The charter can be changed but it can’t happen until it is place on the ballot in 2012. Just as the rules I put in my previous post on how to admend the Constitution. At that meeting and at that time the council could only follow the laws on the books (Charter) for of 2011. Even Miss Lisanti asked, “what is the penilty for not following the Charter” she knew the law. Hey the offer of the council placing a Democrat as their choice was a compromise, but Wendy beat down the Council President on that offer. So it is the Democrat party leaders fault that you have ZERO representation on all counts. Didn’t run warm bodies for office and failed to take a compromise to have a imput in the process. I do enjoy the discusion Tom because it lets everyone see both viewpoints on the issue. When we look at views there is no right or wrong view. Now when we talk about law there is a right and wrong and the person or group that doesn’t follow the law is WRONG!
Tom Myers says
Tim~
I just watched your speech again on my DVR. Aside from the stuff about abiding by the law, nothing you said in your reply was mentioned in your testimony to the Council.
Your exact quote was, “I’m tired of hearing about how when we have a document and they say it’s a flawed document, we can just change things.” If you had mentioned the process of how laws are changed during your testimony, then you and I would not even be having this debate right now. The point I was trying to make was you said what you said and I attempted to provide not only another point of view, but matter of historical fact.
Tim Impallaria says
You are right Tom that is exactly what I said. You just can’t change it was right in the context of what that meeting was about. You did not mention the process either Tom you only advance the that we had amendment. What Wendy and other Dem’s want was instant change and notto go through the process. So I guess now you would agree that the only answer to the problem is to follow the established process of change?
Tom Myers says
Tim~
An amendment to the Constitution is just that: something that amends (or changes) something in the Constitution.
I suspect this is more along the lines of you not liking what I have to say about you and you saying that I made some kind of error when I, in fact, have not.
Yeah but says
Yeah, but why are you mentioning democratic “leaders” and wendy sawyer in one breath?
Tim Impallaria says
Tom you miss the point, I know what an amendment is I’m old enought to remember School House Rock “I’m Just a Bill”. What you have not answered is don’t we have to follow the same process to change the Charter. To accept adding to Democrats to the commission would violate the charter, correct? Just a short answer will answer this question Tom.
Tom Myers says
Tim~ All I said was I took issue with you (and Tony Passaro, as well) saying how rules can’t be changed. I gave an example of how they can be.
Is that short enough for you?
Porter says
@Tom
How do you amend the charter so that you can get the result that democrats want?
P.
WTF? says
Tom Myers seemed like a nice guy when I met him before the election. Now that I know more about him, we can all consider ourselves lucky he was destroyes in the elections. My only regret is that I don’t live in his district to vote against him. As you can see in his posts, like most democrats, when he is proven wrong, he tries to change the subject.
Pat Haggerty says
My only regret is that Cassandra Beverly is going to be on the school board! Too bad, Ron Eaton was the better candidate. Wish I knew what happened in Dist. B?
Watcher says
Pat – here’s a newsflash. As much as you probably dislike it, African-Americans and women can be elected officials. I’m sorry this doesn’t conform to what is likely your view of America today. Oh, and the South of 1862 called and would like you to come back.
Pat Haggerty says
Calling me a racist and a sexist is out of line. My issue is strickly political. Clearly saying “Ron Eaton was the better candidate” should have proved that.
Tom Myers says
Pat~
I believe more people voted for Cassandra than Ron. I got that information from some place called the Harford County Board of Elections.
Pat Haggerty says
Ok yes, Beverly won. I’m very aware of this. I was saying that Ron Eaton was the better candidate. Calling me racist and sexist, just a little out of line? Agreed?
But Tom, I do agree with you when you say “When you have the courage to make any statements by using your real name” to those who choose not to do so, esp. when making attacking statements. Some of the comments, both pro and con on your article are out of line. Can’t we all express our views and thoughts, civilly?
Tom Myers says
Pat~
In regard to my responses, if a detractor wants to direct something crazy at me, then I will respond with something similar because that’s the only way my detractors are able to take in information, apparently.
On your points about civility, you are preaching to the choir in directing that comment to me.
Now, how about you and I spread the civility message together to the anonymous trolls?
Pat Haggerty says
@Tom – I’ll give you that… Someone says something about you, then yes fire back, in fact, I find some of your replies pretty funny! Yes, I join you in hoping and spreading a more civil discussion. There is no reason to launch personal attacks concerning hairlines, racism, or several of the other personal and nasty attacks.
Yeah but says
Yeah, but shouldn’t we start spelling his name Meyeres?
Pat Haggerty says
Can’t wait to see what the Dems think when Owe’Malley tears apart the state’s congressional maps!
decoydude says
Most of the comments here make me glad that I am a political Independent. This country, state and county are really in serious decline if some of these comments are representative of the majority of the Republicans and Democrats. I was brought up to be civil and courteous in my discourse. I guess my values are out of touch with the norms of today. So, I say, “Shame on both of your houses!”
Bill in Baltimore says
Decoy, C’mon, it’s a blog ! let your hair down and say what you think . . . I do think the receding hairline references were uncalled for . . . and Myers’ nit-picking on grammar certainly took everyone’s eyes off the subject (as lefties always do), but blogs are the un-Cheers “no one knows your name” . . . you can take your tie off now . . .
Tom Myers says
Bill~
I apologize if my attention to something called facts has distracted you. You must get distracted easily.
Speaking of which: BOOBS!
Bill? Bill? I’m over here.
Bill in Baltimore says
Tom,
I rescind my comment about wishing you were on our team. In fact, I’m glad you’re on the Dem team – perhaps that’s why the Dems are like non-existent in Harford County ? Think about it – 2 + 2 = …
Bill in Baltimore says
Tom,
distracted by facts, you say ?
you mean like these facts:
– the law says you must have [such and such] percentage of votes
– the Dems DIDN’T EVEN FIELD candidates
– the Dems didn’t have enough votes to get on the commission
which of those facts are in dispute ? Oh, right.
Watcher says
You forgot to mention that when the charter was written, ALL the council seats were elected at-large, thus making the charter out of date. It should have been corrected back in 2002, when the election process was changed, but it wasn’t. And it wasn’t the job of the Democratic Central Committee or the Republican Central Committee to amend the charter. That task falls squarely on the shoulders of the Council. Those are some other facts that you seem to have left out.
Bill in Baltimore says
Watcher, oooooh, I just fell on the floor in the fetal position with those facts . . . so hard hitting.
But let me get this straight:
you’re saying the charter is out of date and should have been corrected back in 2002 ?
and even though you put the onus on the Council to amend, the Democrats did [ nothing ] to correct it ? is that what you are saying ?
and then in 2003 the Dems did nothing either ?
and also in 2004 ? 2005 ? 2006 ? 2007 ? 2008 ? 2009 ? 2010 ?
And then when the Dems realize they’re toast they stop whining ?
Ok, I got it. Thanks !
Bill in Baltimore says
Watcher – if the Dems had fielded candidates and met the 15% criteria, then we WOULD NOT be scratching our heads at the outdated charter, because the Dems would be part of the redistricting commission.
I mean, jeez, they can’t even get 15% of the vote ? Maybe THAT’S the message the Dems should be scratching their heads over, don’cha think ?
So what is your proposal ? That a former party of influence should ALWAYS be on the commission ? Perhaps the Whig party ? or the Know Nothing party ?
Seriously, what is the proposal ?
Watcher says
@Bill – continually repeating the same misinformation will not suddenly make it true. I have seen this pattern with you on this website before. You attack, make no sense, and then dig your heels in. I tried to simply explain the facts surrounding this issue and you are content to believe only one side’s argument. Enjoy life with your head in the sand.
Fatty Pockets says
Bill is correct. The Dems didn’t even bother to field a team. Can the Ravens complain about forfeiting a game when they didn’t even bother to show up?
If I recall correctly it’s only $50.00 to put your name on the ballot. Even Tom could afford that entry fee.
Tom, you should have saved up all the money from the “take a penny leave a penny” tray and run ANOTHER failed political campaign. At least that would have been more entertaining than listening to you whine and complain now.
Watcher says
This doesn’t have anything to do with the number of candidates that entered the respective races. This is simply about te fact that the election process changed and the charter was not updated. It’s not the fault of Democrats or Republicans that this never happened. Blame falls squarely on the county council and county government.
This nonsense about no candidates, $50.00 for the application (quoted right from Councilman Slutzky) are all red herrings. The simple fact is that NO ONE was aware of the charter issue until it was brought to light.
Fatty Pockets says
I don’t care how stacked against you the deck is. You can’t just say “I don’t like your rules, I’m not playing the game” then complain that you couldn’t play.
Enter the election, run it aggressively, and if the deck is stacked against you, use the evidence of it as a legitimate gripe against the system as it stands. And make your changes.
Don’t pull this crap after the fact.
What’s the lotto catch phrase? Gotta play to win!
Watcher says
I totally agree. They should have fielded candidates. But that’s an entirely different issue. I mean, sure, if they had fielded candidates and reached or exceeded the requisite 15%, we’d still be scratching our heads at the outdated charter.
Sadly, this has become yet another divisive issue between the citizens of this county who look for every opportunity to square off along partisan lines and try and insult each other while the real issues and problems go unaddressed.
Fatty Pockets says
Watcher,
Thanks for trying to take the moral high road after participating in the “divisive issue” yourself and being proven flat wrong.
When you can’t get away with calling Pat a racist and a sexist you move on to typical whiney talking points, and when you’re proven wrong there you try to take the high road. As if you’re above it all.
Stay classy Watcher.
Tom Myers says
Fatty~
After all of the attacks that you and your boyfriend Terrance (not his real name) have made against me, you are in no position to lecture anyone about taking the high road and telling others that they are not above it all.
That being said, by putting my name on the line in the process of public discourse, I am doing more than you are right now. When you have the courage to make any statements by using your real name and not some anonymous moniker, then I *might* take you seriously.
Here, kitty kitty kitty …
Watcher says
Sorry, “Fatty,” but I found Pat’s comments to be racist and sexist. But that’s between us. And there was nothing whiney about what I said. It’s simple fact that can actually be researched. You seem happy to regurgitate talking points and half-information as facts.
How exactly was I proven wrong? Please educate all of us with your scary intellect. I’m waiting breathlessly.
Pat Haggerty says
How was it racist and sexist? I’m not seeing it.
Phil Dirt says
You thought that a white man was the best person for the job, so in some people’s eyes you are by definition a racist. This is just like the morons who think that anyone who is opposed to Obama, regardless of the reason or justification, is by default a racist.
Some folks who lean to the left really want you to judge people by the color of their skin or the equipment in their underwear, not their beliefs. It is become more and more clear who the mean-sprited ones are, who the real racists are, and who the real sexists are.
Pat Haggerty says
Still waiting for that answer.
Yeah but says
Yeah, but what’s wrong with racism or sexism? This IS Harford County, isn’t it?
Fatty Pockets says
I never claimed I was above anything Tom.
I’m just impressed that when a liberals argument fails they resort to name calling and platitudes instead of actual discussion. Or in your case they resort to grammar correction. Or alluding that Terrance and I homosexuals.
I guess it basically comes down to the fact that I would sooner take financial advice from a crack head than take a political lecture from a convenience store clerk.
Perhaps if you worked at Wawa I *might* take you seriously.
Watcher says
Stay classy, Fatty Pockets.
Tom Myers says
Uh, Fatty? You’re heckling someone who is a comedic writer. What do expect me to do, bow before you and thank you for your (lack of) insight?
Even Pat Haggerty, who is on the opposite end of the spectrum from me on many issues, says I should respond to such statements.
Continuing to be anonymous and accusing others of name calling when you are doing the same to me does nothing to help your cause, Gomer.
Here, kitty kitty kitty …
Phil Dirt says
Hey Mr. Comedic Writer (at least for this article), get your story straight – you said I was Gomer, not Fatty.
Tom Myers says
As far as I can tell, there’s no differnece between you and Fatty.
Terrance says
Hey Tom, you forgot a word here when you said this: “What do expect me to do”. That’s right, the tables have turned! Now I’m ignoring your main points of conversation and focusing only on your poor grammar and writing!
By the way, I loved how you called yourself a “comedic writer.” What planet do you live on, Tom? You’re a 7-11 clerk!
My boyfriends Fatty and Phil Dirt have made me laugh about five different times with their comments. You need to steal their material for your next open mic.
ps – BOOBS!
Tom Myers says
And Terrance (not his real name), you’re still an anonymous troll who still doesn’t have the cajones to attach a name to everything you type.
Here, kitty kitty kitty.
Tom Myers says
*What do you expect me to do …
Robert says
Fatty…
please enlighten us as to your pedigree.
your comments make you appear to be a narrow minded jerk. perhaps you could take some lessons from a convenience store clerk who has an everyday opportunity to talk to everyday people.
your attacks on Tom’s occupation only make you look like a jerk — especially when you hide behind anonymity.
WTF? says
So let me get this straight, just because Tom Myers is using his real name, that somehow makes him right, and respected? When you question the accuracy his statements, he responds by pointing out spelling mistakes, and making stupid comments like “Here kitty, kitty, kitty”. Tom, if you want to impress anyone, try these things
1. Stop with the comedy attempts (you suck at it)
2. Learn the facts before you post
3. When someone questions you, respont to what they are saying, not pointing out spelling errors
4. Remember just because you ran for an office doesn’t make you a political expert.
Bill in Baltimore says
Actually, Tom didn’t say “Here kitty, kitty, kitty”, he said “BOOBS” right out of the blue, as if that was going to distract me or something.
WTF? says
He has said both. He also calls people trolls. This man had some serious issues. Just think if he was elected to the schoold board, anyone who would disagree with him he would have resorted to name calling to them as well. If he wants to hold a public office, he has a lot to learn about dealing with the public. It’s a whold different world than working in a 7-11.
Tom Myers says
WTF (Appropriate username given your statements)
1) “Comedy attempts”? I get paid for performing. Sorry to burst your bubble.
2) “Learn the facts”? Tell that to “Terrance,” “Fatty,” and “Phil (aka Fill) Dirt” since they havent’ gottne one thing right about me, let alone even use their real names.
3) I’m responding to what people are telling me in a way they can apparently understand, you clown.
4) I never said I was a political expert.
Let me know when you actually have something of substance to say and I will respond in a respectable manner. Deal?
WTF? says
1. I never said you didn’t get paid. Try reading what is written before you respond. If you are getting paid, it can’t be much, and you can’t be that good since you are still at the 7-11.
2.There is nothing you have written that shows you know any facts, just opinions
3.Name calling just proves you can’t respond to the facts, and have to resort to name calling, so grow up.
4.In your post you do try and act like you know everything, but you don’t
Ignoring the fact doesn’t make them less true Tom.
Tom Myers says
1) You told me I suck at comedy. I was telling you otherwise. Plenty of other comedians have jobs on the side.
2) “Just opinions”? Have you read any of my other pieces?
3) You should take your own advice about name calling. (See Item #1 above) Doing that ad nauseum on my submissions only shows you know nothing. Plus, the people who post such statements to me only get what they give. I believe it’s because that’s the only way they can process information.
4) Uh, WTF, I am a humorous writer. I try and lighten stuff on here with comedy. If something on here seems a little off, it’s probably a joke. If you don’t get it, that’s fine. If you don’t like it, then do everyone a favor and just skip any article that has my name attached to it. And don’t tell me in response to quit performing or submitting my pieces. It’s not going to happen.
Keep in mind that I am submitting my pieces because I was asked to by Brian Goodman. Therefore, if you don’t like anything I’ve written, it’s Brian’s fault.
WTF? says
Please tell me, what name did I called you? I can answer that for you already, NONE! And yes, what you have written is nothing more than an opinion. And I encourage you to keep writing, because the more you write, the more votes you will cost yourself the next time you run for office! Anyone with a high school diploma can see that you are only hurting yourself with these editorials that have no factual merit!
Tom Myers says
WTF~ You told me I suck at comedy. It is suggestive name-calling. And you let me worry about my electability. Besides, plenty of friends of mine with a college diploma recognize that what I am writing is satire. The fact that my writing offends you shows that you just don’t get it. The fact that you try to make a spectacle out of yourself more than makes my day. Keep it up.
WTF? says
Tom, now you are really trying to stretch the truth even more (suggestive name calling?). Your attempts at being funny are poor at best. You still haven’t been able to prove me wrong. Like all Democrats I have met you resort to twisting what has been said, and name calling for your responses. This doesn’t make you funny, it just proves you can’t support your opinion. You are the one making a spectacle of yourself, not me.
Just stick to what you know….MAKING SLURPEES!
Tom Myers says
WTF, Your statements so far have been opinins, at best. And not very well thought out ones, as well. That being said, if you believe I am not funny, then do everybody a favor and stop commenting on my submissions, most of which are satirical in nature. Apparently, you don’t have the mental capacity to distinguish the difference between news and entertainment.
Oh, and have you ever been in a 7-11? The customers make the Slurpees and not the employees. Sort that out before you worry about my take on facts, Gomer.
Tom Myers says
*opinions
WTF? says
Once again Tom, you can’t argue my points. Everytime you post you just prove me right once again. If you post like people commenting on your submissions, then stop submitting. You think what you’re writing if funny, but I haven’t seen one post on any of your sumbmissions where anyone has said what you wrote is funny. What you are doing is neither news or entertainment. But I see once again you have to resort to name calling. You are a sad individual Tom. I truly pity you.
Tom Myers says
WTF~ If I am such a sad individual, then why are you wasting your precious time responding to my posts and comments?
I know you are probably too lazy to do this and therefore, you won’t, but go back and read all of my other submissions and read the positive comments I have gotten on them before you open your mouth again.
WTF? says
Tom, I will speak whenever I please. You basically asking me to shut up just because you don’t like what I have to say will never happen. The real problem here is that you cannot support what you say. You in all your posts resort to lies and name calling when your points are called into question. This only means one thing, that you can’t support what you say. As far as comedy goes, as soon as you are trying to write something funny, I will acknowledge it when you do. I am a big fan of anything comedy related. That’s unlikely to happen anytime soon.
Tom Myers says
WTF~
I never said you couldn’t say what you wanted to say. I advised you to go through my previous posts. You apparently didn’t do a good enough job in reading them, otherwise you would have seen that I do back up my statements and when I get them wrong, I correct them.
As for my comedy, I play mainly to intellectual crowds that can understand satire. Sorry if you don’t get it.
Tom Myers says
*gotten
Terrance says
* haven’t
Wow Tom, for someone who is so quick to point out the mistakes of others, you certainly make your fair share.
Calm down and try typing a few hours after you have your morning Slurpee. The brainfreeze should be gone by then.
Tom Myers says
*haven’t
*gotten
Harry says
So does WTF mean White Trash Forever?
Yeah but says
Yeah, but someone has to be the world’s worst comic.
Tom Myers says
I say it’s a toss-up between “Terrance” and “Fatty Pockets”
WTF? says
Tom, what crowds do you play for? I have never seen you billed anywhere as an act, and I love stand up comedy. How do you know thw crowds you play to are smart? Did you give everyone an IQ test before entering? As far as correction go, the only ones you will make are spelling corrections, none about the misrepresentation of facts which are frequent.
Tom Myers says
WTF~ You apparently do not like stand-up comedy enough to do a simple Google search (Hint: “Tom Myers” “schedule”) to see where and when I am going to be performing. As I am typing this, I just got done two shows for two separate packed houses at a casino in Coos Bay, Oregon. You’re the one guilty of frequent mispresenation of facts.
As for you not seeing many corrections of mine, that should tell you something about the research that I do before I make my submissions.
WTF? says
As far as corrections go, it does tell me something anout your research, it tells me you don’t do any.
Tom Myers says
Wow. What a coherent and well-thought out argument. :p
Phil Dirt says
Well, I took the challenge and googled Tom Myers and Oregon and found that he did appear at The Mill Casino on March 2. Actually, it said “Arlo Stone with Tom Myers”, and by googling Arlo Stone, I found an interesting post on his website about “American Hero Bradley Manning” – you know, the soldier who turned over classified documents to WikiLeaks.
The part I found most interesting was this paragraph near the end:
“I call anyone ‘serving’ in the armed forces ‘subhuman’ for the simple reason that other than thumbs, it is only our possession of a conscience that separates us from animals; an understanding and willingness to act upon right and deny action furthering wrong. If ANYONE abdicates their morality, their conscience, and instead becomes willing to ‘fire when told’ regardless of their own opinion, then they are no more human than a robot. A trigger for hire, and certainly not fully human…”
Yeah, this guy is a regular laugh riot.
You can tell a lot about a person by the company they keep (or appear at a casino with). Think about it, Tom. Is it really worth it?
WTF? says
Tom still hasn’t answered any of my statemts about him researching his facts. Everytime he is questioned about, he refuses to answer. The only thing he has managed to do with his name calling, misquoting people, and just plain avoidend the questions is prove that he absolutely has no clue what he is talking about. There is nothing funny about what he is doing, no one ever post how funny his statements are. Now we see what kind of people Tom associates with. What a disgrace.

Just as the national Democrats don’t read the Constitution before passing a bill, the local Democrats didn’t bother to read the charter before the election. There is a set law of the land for a reason and leave it to the Democrats to ignore. Stating that no one had known about the section of the charter requiring 15% is a ridiculous claim and I am very happy the individuals who did know about it who kept their mouths closed until after the election. This is a huge failure of responsibilities by Wendy Sawyer and Democrats should be furious at her that she turned down the offer to have one seat (especially with two such nice young gentlemen, Ben Lloyd and Jason Gallion).
Fatty Pockets says
I was totally serious when I said Tom should have run for one of those offices.
I would have even voted for him. I would have gotten my friends to vote for him. Seriously.
I would love to see Tom on the dais trying to squeeze in his terrible jokes, calling people he disagrees with names, and slipping in plugs for open mic nights at some crap-hole bar.
I really think that if the people of Harford County saw how honestly spiteful and shallow this particular “young democrat” is I think it would be a great shot in the arm for the voters on the right.
I even have a slogan for the campaign. “Tom Myers: Because no one else is running!”
Feel free to use that next time.
WTF? says
NOW THAT’S FUNNY!!!!!
Fatty Pockets says
I imagine he would be heavily influenced by the big-bite lobbyists.
Z says
Everyone needs to stop responding to pieces written by Tom. By commenting or getting into arguments with him only serves to stroke his ego. The best response is silence. Just as the Amish shun some in their community, who in essence become invisible, this is what we should do to Tom. Without the audience you provide he is nothing.
Watcher says
Does the same hold true for the Right-wing nutjobs and Tea Partiers? Will you guys just go away also? If so, I will offer to trade Tom’s silence for yours.
Z says
In extreme cases – yes.
Fatty Pockets says
Z. You’re partially right. Tom is also nothing WITH an audience.
The Director says
Hey after reading this blog I have a question? If you were making the parties on this blog into a movie, what would be the setting and what actor would play the parties. Come with it maybe I can produce it!
