The Harford County Council will consider a resolution regarding 2011 Housing and Urban Development grant funds, proclaim Harry Hopking a living treasure, and honor the U.S. Naval Academy during its Tuesday night session, but item of most interest is expected to be how the council deals with appointment of the controversial redistricting commission.
The Harford County Charter mandates that a commission be established every 10 years to suggest a new political district map to the County Council. The Democrats may have lost the privledge of having members nominated to that committee, however, after failing to offer candidates to challenge Republicans in the requisite number of races during the 2010 General Election (see related story).
