From the Harford County Public Library:
On February 5, Harford County Public Library received a donation of several copies of the book Meet the Real Joe Black by Steven Michael Selzer from the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Mr. Selzer spoke about his book and a book dedication by the Fraternity followed. The donation, held at the Abingdon branch, was in honor of Black History Month.
As part of the program, Selzer spoke about his book and his personal relationship as a student, mentee and friend of Joe Black, the famous African American Major League baseball player. Members of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., the first African American national fraternal organization founded at a historically black college, spoke about the history of their organization, of which Joe Black was a member.
Omega Psi Phi Fraternity’s mission is to provide social action in the communities in which they live through dedication to their four Cardinal Principles: manhood, scholarship, perseverance and uplift.
Harford County Public Library operates eleven branches located throughout Harford County, Maryland. The library serves over 210,000 registered borrowers of all ages and has an annual circulation of almost 4,700,000. Harford County Public Library is committed to connecting people with information and promoting the love of reading within the community.
