A fully involved recreational vehicle fire on the parking lot of the vacant business The Auto Store, located at 1219 Old Philadelphia Boulevard – just outside Aberdeen city limits, shut down Route 40 overnight.
At 2:25 a.m. Tuesday, the Aberdeen Fire Department was dispatched to the scene and 10 firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in 5 minutes, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office. Aberdeen Police Department assisted at the scene.
Traffic was disrupted on west bound Route 40 near Old Philadelphia Road (Route 7).
The fire, which was estimated to have caused $100,000 in damage, was discovered by a passerby and was determined by the State Fire Marshal’s Office to have originated in the interior passenger compartment of the vehicle. The preliminary cause of the fire is deemed “incendiary.”
