A Thursday fire damaged the popular Rendezvous Bar and Restaurant in Perryville, causing an estimated $75,000 in damage and taking about a half-hour to bring under control, according to the state fire marshal’s northeast regional office.
An employee discovered the blaze in an exterior boiler room of the two-story restaurant at 362 Front Street shortly before 11:30 a.m. Thursday. Approximately 60 firefighters from the Perryville, Perry Point VA, Susquehanna, Port Deposit, Charlestown, and Northeast fire companies brought the two-alarm fire under control in about 30 minutes, the state fire marshal’s office said. Perryville police and representatives of Baltimore Gas and Electric assisted at the scene.
The cause of the fire was traced back to a mechanical malfunction with the building’s natural gas line, according to the state fire marshal. Damage to the structure was estimated at $25,000, and damage to contents was estimated at $50,000.
