Mayor Wayne Dougherty of the City of Havre de Grace announces the New Year will have a fireworks show and “Duck Drop” on December 31st at midnight. The illuminated duck will be dropped from a 102 -foot ladder provided by Susquehanna Hose Company at Havre de Grace Middle School located on Lewis Lane.
The fireworks commencing at the Middle School can be viewed from various locations in Havre de Grace. The Duck Drop became a tradition in 1999 to ring in the millennium and continued through local community support. In 2007-08 the Susquehanna Hose Company stepped in to take on facilitating the Duck Drop.
“Another great kick off to a New Year”, said Mayor Wayne Dougherty, “my hat goes off to the volunteers of the Havre de Grace Recreation Committee and the Susquehanna Hose Company for making this important event happen for our City. He added, “The families of Havre de Grace and surrounding area can celebrate the New Year’s Eve enjoying a wonderful display of fireworks and our local tradition of watching the lighted Duck Drop.”

The ten to fifteen minute fireworks show is being provided through the partnership with Dennis and Donna Coster of Fireworks Productions, Inc. of Maryland.
