From Harford County Public Schools:
The Harford County Board of Education will receive the proposed draft elementary redistricting plan on November 29th at Patterson Mill Middle/High School at 7:00 p.m. during a Board work session. This session will allow the Board to receive the same formal presentation that the Focus Groups received earlier this month and to ask questions of the Superintendent’s Technical Advisory Committee (STAC). The Board will not take action on the draft plan on November 29th.
While general public comment is not accepted at work sessions, seven regional community hearings have been scheduled in the upcoming weeks for the Board to gather their own feedback. The following hearings will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.:
– Monday, December 6, 2010 – Harford Technical High School cafeteria
– Wednesday, January 12, 2011 – Aberdeen High School auditorium
– Wednesday, January 19, 2011 – Bel Air High School and Fallston High School auditoriums
– Thursday, January 20, 2011 – Edgewood High School and North Harford High School auditoriums
*The final Board hearing will be scheduled in February. More information will be forthcoming.
The public is invited to attend a hearing to share their comments and proposals with the Board. In addition, the elementary redistricting email address (ElementaryRedistricting@hcps.org) will remain open for collecting feedback and questions through February 2011. General questions are being compiled and used to develop a Frequently Asked Questions section on the elementary redistricting page of the Harford County Public Schools website (http://www.hcps.org/BOE/redistricting.aspx).
The Board work session will be videotaped and posted to the school system’s website. Video footage of the first three Focus Group meetings is currently available on the website, and the remaining two will be posted as soon as they are available. Also, Harford Cable Network will air the five Focus Group meetings every Saturday at 8:30 p.m. during the month of December on Comcast Channel 21, Armstrong Channel 7 and Verizon FiOS Channel 31.
Parents are reminded that attendance areas for middle and high schools will not be affected as a result of the elementary redistricting.
