From Harford Community College:
The Harford Youth Orchestra, under the direction of Brian Folus, and the Harford String Orchestra, under the direction of Tim Reinhardt, will present their 12th season fall concert on Saturday November 20, at 2 PM at the Amoss Center. The concert is free and open to the public.
The Harford Youth Orchestra, a high school orchestra of 75 instrumentalists, will perform Dance of the Hours by Ponchielle, “Suite” from Carmen by Bizet, Country Gardens by Percy Grainger, Prairie Song by Carl Strommen, and selections from Tchaikovsky’sThe Nutcracker Suite.
The Harford String Orchestra, a middle school orchestra of 75 instrumentalists, will perform Marche Militaire by Franz Schubert, “Suite” from Handel’s Water Music, Rumanian Folk Dances by Bela Bartok, and An Irish Party in Third Class from the movieTitanic, arranged by Gaelic Storm.
Immediately following the orchestra concert, the Harford Youth Band, under the direction of Stefan Antwarg and Diane Sell, will present their fall concert. The program will include Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! by Sammy Cahn & Julie Styne, Mini-Suiteby Morton Gould, German Dance (“The Sleigh Ride”) by Wolfgang Mozart, Holiday Highlights arranged by Mark Williams,Rainforest Rhapsody by Paul Jennings, and Raiders March from the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark by John Williams.
The Harford Youth Orchestra, String Orchestra, and Youth Band provide an extension experience for string, wind, and percussion students. The band and orchestras serve youth in the northeast section of Maryland and neighboring portions of Pennsylvania and Delaware. Orchestral experiences are designed for serious students ages 11-18 or grades 6-12. Membership in the Harford Youth Orchestra is open to all grades 8-12 string, wind, and percussion students currently enrolled in their school orchestra or band program, where available. Membership in the Harford String Orchestra is open to all grade 6-8 string students currently enrolled in their school orchestra program, where available. Both orchestras are maintained by an Advisory Board and in partnership with Harford Community College.
