To Whom It May Concern,
Over the last two years I have campaigned across Harford County and Cecil County, meeting citizens face to face to better understand the needs of those whom my candidacy would greatly affect. As I spent endless hours door knocking and engulfing myself in the issues that are most pertinent to the residents of Joppa, Edgewood, Aberdeen, Havre De Grace, Port Deposit, and other towns throughout the district, I felt that someone who can help revive our economy would be best suited to take on this task.
The economy is why I reached out to find companies, like New Jersey’s S&K Technologies, that were willing to move or expand their operations to Harford County. This economy has become a heavy cloud hovering over our residents pouring nothing but pain and despair on our lives. Our unemployment rate has risen to nearly 9 percent. When you take into account those who are under-employed and those who are no longer factored in the unemployed statistics, the real number is a more disturbing 16 percent. That means one out of every six residents is either unemployed or underemployed. This tells me that the only true answer people are voting for are JOBS.
My personal endorsement for the 2010 General Election of the next State Senator in District 34 must be a decision that benefits those same people that I shook hands with, hugged, and had intimate conversations about their personal troubles and situations. Not my own. It is a decision that I sat down with and prayed about. It is the right decision for what I feel my district needs in this dire of times. I choose to give my full support and ask those who voted and supported my candidacy to now support Arthur Helton to be our next Senator for District 34.
Arthur Helton and I have had our disagreements in and out of the cameras view, over the issue of residency and tactics. But as Judge Emory Plitt ruled that residency is where a person says it is, I promised I would not fight against the court’s decision. He does undoubtedly own a residence in our community and has owned and operated a successful land development and property management firm that year over year puts more people back to work.
I have personally had conversations, with not only Arthur Helton, but our Governor as well, about where my support should lie. One thing is certain; that it is important that someone looking to serve our constituent’s greatest need be in this position to do what we all hope occurs… Bring Us Jobs! More than anything, Arthur Helton is a real man. He is a person who knows what must be done and goes about getting things resolved, regardless what others may think. It is success he chases for those he serves, nothing more. As our next Senator, he will stand against the gridlock in Annapolis and find the route that best brings us the resolve we are all looking for. He cares not about his reputation and status, but the progress and solutions to the issues we harbor.
For this commitment, I know Arthur Helton has for the concerns of District 34 in his heart and on his mind. I am giving my support to him for the General Election on November 2nd. This is a serious decision. We must choose a person that personally has the qualifications to negotiate and bring us the jobs, funding, and development to Harford and Cecil Counties to get the thousands of voters back to work.

Wow, so you are openly saying that you can’t vote for a woman?

This letter of support for Mr. Helton is especially ironic since it defies logic and substance. If one looks only at past articles about Mr. Helton posted in the Dagger, one gets a colorful and interesting view of the “man” that you support. Helton has several past wives, several diverse and questionable business ventures, several ‘different’ relationship styles…and in addition, several choices of residences in MD and in Florida. His attack ads are not accurate or factually correct and his lack of stating his own plans,goals or ideas and how he would propose implementing them without raising fees or taxes, showing us his lack of character. One would expect examples of what he plans to do as senator, from one who is claiming to know all about everything business, and everyone. His lack of candor and character are not what I need in my legislator. I want someone to say what they mean, act honorably, with compassion and integrity, and Mr. Helton does not demonstrate these traits in his behaviors, wife beating ring anyone else’s bells? His campaign radio, tv, and print ads or his performances in the candidate forums in which he has appeared do not show his concrete plans or even his wish list of goals he would like to see for MD. He is not running to represent Harford/Cecil county, but only himself. I deduce that from his blatantly disrespectful attacks on his opponent. Mr. Helton is not someone that plays well with others, and I think that this next session in Annapolis is going to be quite intense and since Mr. Helton was having some health issues earlier this year he would be better served staying home with his family.
I plan to vote for Sen. Nancy Jacobs.
Malachi, your hyper-critical rant against Art Helton lacks an important ingredient…truth.
First, you ask what Art Helton would do as State Senator. It’s obvious to most voters that one difference between Jacobs and Helton is Art would show up and work hard. That’s something that Jacobs hasn’t done for years. She got her nickname “No-Show Nancy” the old fashioned way…she earned it. That was already talked about in District 34 before the Helton campaign picked it up. Jacobs missed Annapolis votes and Cecil-Harford community meetings…that’s reality, deal with it. Don’t try to explain it away.
Second, you complain that Art Helton’s campaign literature and his TV ads are “blatantly disrespectful” of Jacobs. Now I’ve read the Helton mailers and I’ve noticed that they only focus on facts. Jacobs missed a lot of votes. Jacobs owns two houses in Florida and things of that nature. Everything is thoroughly researched with sources such as the Department of Legislative Reference, Maryland General Assembly. I notice that you’re not disputing that very damaging information. Obviously, it’s true. So the only “blatant disrespect” in evidence is that of Jacobs to her employers, the voters of the District 34.
Seriously though. How many votes did Nancy miss? Let’s assume it was 25.
Helton missed thousands of votes when he had his brief stint in the Senate. Let’s be serious. The real question is how many people read this site- and how much Helton is paying you to post these comments.

Come on, lets get it right. Art Helton had a record of 100%, thats right 100% attendance on votes and meetings while in Annapolis. That fact is record and can be looked up. And I doubt very seriously if this is the Nancy Jacobs, because she would know that, and not want that to get out. Again, twisting truthes are not going to help in this campaign. The voters have the means, and will check things out. All this distortion from the Jacobs supporters just show how worried and desperate they truely are.
Nancy’s daughter here again… speaking of lacking the important ingredient of truth… my parents own one house in Florida. If you had honestly “thoroughly researched” it, you would know that. Anyway, why does it matter that she owns property in FL? How is that “damaging information”? I just wanted to set the record straight on that and point out voters can’t depend on Helton’s “thorough research”.

Oh no! I just got to see the mailer that Helton sent out about my parents’ “two” houses in FL! Too bad that the other house belongs to another Nancy Jacobs who is 80 years old! A little research goes a long way… this isn’t going to do much for his credibility! He should have read my post before he paid to send that out! 🙂

You have obviously reached a point of desperation. You have mixed a concoction of lies and distorted facts, to try to confuse the voters. I don’t know how you could call owning and running the #1 business in a National Franchise, “a questionable business venture”. Oh and the residence in FL., Thats Nancy Jacobs not Art Helton. Now lets talk about his attacks on Nancy Jacobs. Helton has not personally attacked her at all. He has called her out on her record of missing important votes that affect this District. And all the records support his claims. As far as the quotes of her being an ineffective Senator, and an obstructionist, those are not his words. They are however newspaper articles that have been writen about her.
What is really sad is that Nancy feels the only chance she has is to have her family pleading with the public that Helton is attacking her, instead of being able to stand strong on her record while in Annapolis! She has had 12 years to help us. I don’t think that pleading (Poor Nancy) is going to wash with the voters! They are much smarter than she,or you obviously, give them credit for.

Newsflash….Government does not create jobs…..the private sector creates jobs. Government can help by getting out of the way.
The stimulus was passed in a flurry of “sign it now or the world will end” fervor and they promised the unemployment rate would not go above 8%. Do you need more proof that government is NOT the answer to our economic issues?
Sure, there needs to be a reasonable amount of regulation and companies/people doing things illegally NEED TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. Regulation sound like jobs for the government. But, as for CREATING JOBS for most of our citizens?!? If you want that, you’ve got plenty of other choices around the world…..Cuba, Venezuela, Spain, Greece, France….Seeing as how they’re doing so well.
O’Malley called Washington and asked him to endorse Helton in exchange for a job with the State in the event that O’Malley wins re-election.
Is there any doubt? Why else would Washington, who has had nothing but vitriol for Helton finally decide to do this?
A real man doesn’t abuse people, especially women.

Rovall Washington, I thought that YOU were a “Real Man” (or at least an HONEST man). Just two weeks ago today (at the end of Councilwoman Mary Ann Lisanti’s fundraiser in Havre de Grace), I approached you regarding “rumors” that you had thrown your support behind this despiciple person, and you vehemently denied it. Until a few minutes ago when I read it in The Dagger(and for the past few months), I thought that we had always been honest with each other and that we were friends. I now realize that you have the same affliction as the washed up former polician that you are now endorsing….you lack integrity. What a shame. You said that you “prayed about” this decision, but Jesus said “Father forgive “him”, for he knows not what he does”. You may, or may not care, but I HONESTLY don’t know if I can ever forgive you.

Hiob made the promises for the FOP endorsement. But he didn’t get elected, so he couldn’t pay up. Thank goodness, I don’t think the tax payers would have been very happy paying that bill.
Mr. Hiob, how in the hell can you consider yourself a Democrat if you would prefer Jacobs over Helton? No matter what you think of the man, it is his votes that matter. Helton will MUCH better serve the bay, our schools, civil rights, our police/fire departments, our BRAC infrastructure improvements, women who want to the right to choose what is best for their own body, progressive taxation, and so many other important issues that Democrats can see the clear picture for in a way that Teaparty/Republican (there is not difference any longer) candidates like Jacobs are unwilling to even intellectually discuss, much less seriously consider. You have no standing whatsoever as a Democrat if you would work in favor of Jacobs over any Democrat (she is the to the right of Atilla the Hun). Perhaps we should set you up on a date with Barbara Kreamer; you two belong together.

It seems that you must always have someone to hate. And now it seems that no one can be a friend of yours unless they hate too. That is a sickness. You should seek some help for that. It will consume you, it is not good for you and will bleed over into every aspect of your life.
A note for Rovall: If thats the way you truly feel, then you are a real man for standing behind it, instead of yielding to others who would prefer hatred, and insist that you hate too.
Washington was a tool for Guthrie and now he is a tool for Helton. Watch how quickly they throw him away when they are done using him.
I was wondering the same. From what I’ve heard of Helton’s campaign against Washington… I dunno, if he did that to me, he’d have to apologize in a big way AND change his current tone towards his opponent before I’d endorse him.
They say everyone has their price. That price could’ve been an apology, I guess, but Mr. Washington has a very low price if he can accept an apology for behavior towards him and think the man has changed at all.
I won’t go making accusations at either party. That’s Helton’s area of expertise. But it does leave one with suspicions. And those are dangerous things in politics.

Helton is a snake and Aberdeen has catered to him for way too long. Giving him the money to develop and allowing him to pay it back at rediculously low interest, nearly 0%. No wonder the tax base there is through the roof……

This is why youre no longer there! You don’t know the facts any better now, than when you were there. Art Helton has never recieved any money (loan or otherwiswe) from Aberdeen. Helton had to submit a financial statement to run for office. That fact would have been easy for you to find out, IF YOU REALLY WANTED TO. So please, if you have anything other than venom to spew out of your mouth, please let us know. Facts would be nice. But then again THATS WHY YOU ARE NO LONGER THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just looked at the recently started web page put up by Washington and Robinson. The first article I see is “Democratic Icon Washington Changes Role” What an absolute joke! This guy and Robinson have deluded themselves into thinking they have any real power. In reality they are not smart enough to realize they were were/are being used by Guthrie and now Helton. The thought that Washington had any chance to win the Senate nomination is laughable and any thought that Robinson could be on the school board is downright scary and would be an absolute disaster for the Edgewood community. He is divisive and the rest of the board would either ignore him or worse turn against him which would be bad news for our students. It is a good thing we got the two new schools in Edgewood (without Robinson’s help I might add) because if he is elected it will be 4 years of drought for our community.
