From the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal:
A Harford County woman who sustained critical injuries in an apartment fire in the early morning hours of Tuesday, October 19, 2010 has died.
Helen Bernice Logan age 70, died this afternoon at Harford Memorial Hospital in Havre de Grace. Logan died as a result of smoke inhalation.
Deputy State Fire Marshals determined the 4:30 a.m. blaze at 213 S. Union Avenue originated in the living room of the deceased. The cause for the fire remains under investigation.
The cause of death for her companion, Keith Richard Dowden age 60, whom was pronounced dead at the scene, will be determined after a through examination by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Twenty-five firefighters from Susquehana Hose, Aberdeen and Level volunteer fire departments controlled the fire in fifteen minutes and held the blaze to the apartment occupied by the victims. The remaining occupants of the other apartments were assisted by the American Red Cross.
Damages to the three story wood framed multi-family Victorian style home are estimated at $60,000.
