From the Harford County Sheriff’s Office:
Shortly before daybreak, on Saturday, October 16, 2010, members of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team and Harford County Task Force discovered an active, meth lab in the 2000 block of Durham Road in Fallston MD while making entry on a search and seizure warrant, which was secured in conjunction with an ongoing narcotics investigation.
At approximately 4:30am, deputies made entry into the residence located in Fallston MD without incident. Once inside, they discovered a cache of weapons, several thousands of dollars worth of Methamphetamine (crystal meth), and an active Meth lab in the bedroom closet of the home. Weapons seized include several handguns, assault rifles, homemade silencers and a grenade launcher.
Three individuals were arrested in connection with the investigation. The investigation is ongoing.
Local emergency service personnel assisting at the scene included Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Company, Whiteford Volunteer Fire Company, the Harford County Hazardous Materials Response Team (HAZMAT), and ATF.
Three individuals have been arrested and charged. The investigation is ongoing and being conducted by the Harford County Task Force.
The Harford County Task Force formed in 1988 and consisting of Harford County Sheriff ’s Office, Maryland State Police, Harford County States Attorney’s Office, Aberdeen Police Department, and Havre de Grace Police Department focuses on the larger and more complex narcotic and vice investigations that take place throughout the County. This task force conducts criminal investigations, targeting high-level drug traffickers, importers, and money laundering organizations.

The Budget submitted by Jesse Bane in 2010 exceeded $63 Million, an increase of $19 Million since 2006 – Up over 40%.
Well, actually he’s right. This year it was a budget cut of about $1 million I think and the previous 2 years the budget remained flat (and it’s being projected to remain flat or go down slightly for the next couple years at least regardless of who the sheriff is.) The big budget increase was 2006-2007 which was when the pay scale was revamped to make it competitive with surrounding agencies along with implementing the in car computers (which were not in any cars prior to Bane taking office…aside from a couple of guinea pigs testing them out), etc so don’t be expecting a big decrease in budget if Gahler wins.
I’m not saying there aren’t places to cut some fat, but the budget has remained flat or decreased over the past couple years while operating expenses have increased (and there’s only been one step increase/COLA since Bane took office.)
Actually Jesse was in charge of the mobile computer project before he was Sheriff. Those units sat in storage well over a year because the technology manager in charge of the project was basically incompetent to manage the tech effort. Jesse defended her (who knows why) until she left the agency. It wasn’t until the warranty period approached that it became a priority to get them on the road.
A Corporal was taken off the road to help expedite the project and the tech manager would not cooperate with him. Jesse did not move to rectify that issue when he had the chance. Those Units could have been installed in the cars rather quickly if Jesse would have hired a vendor to get it done. Since he does not understand technology he could not comprehend the effort to do that in-house. Although they are now in the patrol cars their full potential has not been realized because of such issues as bandwidths and other tech obstacles.

Any way you slice it Bane requested $63.7 for 2010 – Approximately $20 Million higer than 2006. Harford County Households do not live on these types of increases.
These are real numbers. Bane was forced to curtail his spending because of Taxpayer revolt on the Property Tax Cap from 9% to 5% and diminished Harford County Income Tax collections.

This meth lab shows the danger of organized crime in our county. You did notice that it was in Fallston and not Edgewood. As I said before, you pennypinchers have to understand that we are in a battle, and you either fight, live with it, or run. I have been reading the Uniform Crime Report and what I find is that your talking list which you have used 100 times now is flawed. You have chosen what supports your beliefs, some of which is true, and some of which is not. If you are going to use facts, don’t play games with them. Statistics lie, and liars use statitics.

I encourage all Voters to look at the MD UNIFORM CRIME REPORT. They will see that a good part of Bane’s crime reduction is due to a decrease in auto thefts and other petty crimes. The Voter will also see that Rapes, Murders, Burgulary are all UP SIGNIFICANTLY since Bane took office! Aggravated assault is flat.
I also encourage Voters to look at the various Harford County Budgets to see where their 9% property tax increases were going and where one of the highest local income tax rates is needed. They will see that Bane requested a $63 Million Budget in 2010 – Up from the $44 Million spent in 2006.

It is very TRUE that 3 Years Prior to Bane 2004 – 2006 14 Murders & 111 Rapes occurred. During JESSE BANE 2007 – 2009 18 Murders & 176 Rapes occurred.
The Harford County Population increased slightly – average 04-06 = 237,193 – average 07-09 = 242,590.

I just discovered this blog today by accident. I was searching the web for some info on some unusual police activity in my neighborhood last night. However, I didn’t find anything about the event last night but I did stumble upon some stories from the recent past that have me intrigued. One story was about the “invisible women” who lived on the corner on rt 40 in HDG. I always wondered what happened to them and even though it was from 2008 it was very informative. I also saw a story about the “marina Mafia” and a death of a boater from HDG which I had never heard about. So while surfing the stories and the blog posts I saw the most recent story about the drug bust and grenede laucher found in fallston.
I can’t find any other story anywhere on the net about this raid. and its not on the TV news tonight. So my question is where are the writers on this blog getting their info from? How does a bust of this magnitude get over looked by the mainstream media?

Also, I live in Greenway farms in Havre de Grace and Sunday night around 11pm there was an incident that had about 4 HDG marked police units and one unmarked unit at a townhouse on mohegan dr. There was a great deal of screaming and yelling and then a Medic unit arrived a few minutes later. I did see that police had several people cuffed sitting on the ground. Just wondering if anyone knows what happened Sunday night?

Oh yeah, I see that on wbaltv.com. I didn’t watch the news at 11 but I see a post on their website. Very interesting.
It was probably some sort of domestic assault, but who knows….could’ve been a lot of different things. Stuff like that happens fairly regularly, though not necessarily in Greenway Farms. If every time the police responded with multiple officers to a call involving yelling and screaming they put out a press release The Aegis would have to more than double in size and publish more than twice a week.
I didn’t see any press releases from hdg police department, so I wouldn’t know what your talking about. But if you go their town website it has the email listed for their police chief and staff. I’m sure you can get some information by emailing them. Also if they participate in Crime Reports you may be able to find the incident on Crimereports.com.
I’m wondering why there are no names of those arrested. If they were minors an article would normally state that. God bless all of our first responders.

There’s little media coverage because there’s little news to report, because there’s an ongoing investigation, and there’s probably an ongoing investigation because there is more work to do for law enforcement, and providing names of suspects and other specific information to the media could hinder further arrests, seizures, etc. Stay tuned and there will be follow up media coverage if more actual news is released. You can’t always hide a big bust like this, but you can still surprise people connected to it in tangential ways by not spilling all the beans up front.

Hey gang before we go giving praise and cudos to Jesse just remember that a broken watch is right twice a day. I suspect that this lab is just the tip of the iceberg here in Harford County and it makes me laugh to read from some that this type of operation is more expected in Edgewood. Not only do rich kids like drugs but they have more money to spend as well. I have said all along that Bane’s strategy of drug and violent crime containment to the rt 40 corridor would never work. Bane is a nice guy. He should be register of wills or something like that but certainly he is not the the man to lead the war on crime in our county.

If there was a search and seizure raid done anyone else involved already knows it went down and they are either running away or laying low. Interestingly enough, as everything that happens in Fallston, no names, not much of any coverage. It’s the same way in the Aegis on the police blotter column. If you watch the blotter, you will see that there is minimal info on things occurring in Fallston. Very rarely names. I guess in the affluent “community” that it is, all is on the hush hush. They never “believe” that things happen in their “community”. I would bet that their are a lot of things that are kept under wraps. Fortunately this one was discovered.

Maryland Judicial Database lists said owner’s 25+ run ins with the law over the last 12 years (mind you, he’s only 28), including a 7-year jail sentence for assault, firearms, and narcotic distribution.
Maryland Judicial Database also shows he’s white, and lived in Havre de Grace until he bought this house in Fallston in August.
Now, in no way is this accusing anyone of anything, this was just simple public record web searching.

Public record shows 2 were 34 and one was 26, before you classify fallston ‘kids’ as the ones running and operating a meth lab and storing weapons, look into it a bit. Looks like 2 were from baltimore. Afterfall wouldn’t these wealthly kids just own handguns and buy drugs from the same dealers, they wouldn’t have to manuf. it. Let’s not automatically attack the youth because some grew up wealthy.

I am happy to have found a website devoted to a discussion of activities in Harford County since the Aegis seems to print a lot of fluff. I agree with one of the authors that Fallston is probably under reported for the kind of things that occur there. Also another author observed that the Legal System seems to not know what to do once Law Enforcement collars someone. I’ve been to AD case Search and I’m amazed at a case that was declared “Nolle Prosequi” for possession on a guy who was already on probation for trying to obtain a controlled substance with a forged prescription. He just had a warrant issued because he failed to show to court for a theft charge. And his license is suspended even though he takes his girlfriend to work at Famous Dave’s in her daddy’s car. I suppose Karma will catch up to him eventually. By the way, daddy lives in the Fallston area where his little girl graduated from school and where she continues to take her children who are all on welfare.
There is definitely a subtle sense of glee by some that Fallston has sustained a major drug bust. Does anyone really believe that those who live in Fallston get special treatment by the legal system and the Aegis? On what do you base your assumption that crime in Fallston is under reported?
And to you, Mr. Porter, I would suggest that at least “girlfriend” is working and she advocates for her children enough to send them to a good school. If you have an issue with “boyfriend” (and this is most likely a personal agenda), I suggest you inform the law next time he is behind the wheel.

I’m guessing that people don’t realize how large of an area Fallston really is. The location of the Meth Lab was way north near Jarrettsville. As far as the Aegis underreporting, perhaps it has something to do with the per capita population of Fallston vs. any other are of the rt. 40 corridor. That being said, Fallston is not absent from crime. Crime has no social binderies. There is just less people in the huge area classified as Fallston to commit crimes.

As an aside, this has been reported on ExploreHarford.com and on WBAL as primarily a “hazing incident”. Regardless of the “intent”, by definition, these boys were sexually assaulted and anything less than those responsible being arrested and charged with sexual assault is a crime in itself. The whisper is that those responsible were suspended for a few games… that’s it!!! If I were the victim’s parents, I’d file a criminal complaint (haven’t done that yet apparently), attorney up big time, and sue everyone even remotely associated with this incident.
