Staten Island, NY – After giving up a four-run lead in Staten Island Thursday night, the Aberdeen IronBirds scored three runs in the ninth inning and won 8-5 to end a three-game losing streak.
The ninth inning started when Austin Knight reached base on an error. Then after Pedro Florimon walked, L.J. Hoes hit a two-run double to left centerfield to give the IronBirds the lead back. Michael Flacco then added to the lead when he blooped a single into centerfield to score Tyler Kolodny.
The IronBirds got on the board first in second inning when Omar Casamayor hit an RBI infield single with the bases loaded to give the IronBirds a 1-0 lead.
They would add to their lead in the third inning. With one out Hoes hit his first home run in an IronBirds uniform to make it a 2-0 lead. Then with the bases loaded Austin Goolsby walked to give the IronBirds a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third inning the Yankees made it a 3-1 game on an Eduardo Sosa RBI double.
The IronBirds wasted no time answering back. In the top of the fourth inning with two outs David Anderson hit a two-run home run his first of the season and it gave the IronBirds a 5-1 lead.
The Yankees scored two runs in each the seventh and eighth innings on a two-run triple by Sosa and a two-run single by Carlos Urena to tie up the ball game.
Justin Anderson got a no decision after going 6.1 innings and allowing just two runs on five hits.
David Walters got his first win of the season pitching the final 1.2 innings and allowing no runs or hits.
The IronBirds and Yankees will go back at it in the finale of the series tomorrow night when Scott Copeland (0-0) goes against Michael O?Brien (1-0).
