From the Aberdeen IronBirds:
Three Brooklyn pitchers combined to strike out 13 Aberdeen batters, as the Cyclones defeated the IronBirds Monday night, 5-2.
The Cyclones jumped on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the first. With one man out, CF Darrell Ceciliani ripped a triple off the right field wall. Brooklyn RF Cory Vaughn (1) then drilled an opposite field home run to right field, giving the Cyclones a two-run lead.
Aberdeen answered right back. RF Tyler Kolodny led off the top of the second with a walk. CF Jeremy Nowak and 3B Adam Gaylord then hit back-to-back singles, loading the bases. C Austin Goolsby came through with a two-run single to center field, tying the game at two.
In the bottom of the fourth, Brooklyn re-took the lead. Vaughn led off the frame with a walk. A batter later, Cyclones? LF Will Cherry doubled to left, knocking in Vaughn. Cherry advanced to third on a ground out and scored on a passed ball, extending the Brooklyn lead to two.
The Cyclones made it a three-run game in the sixth. Vaughn led off the inning with a triple. Cherry then laid down a sacrifice squeeze bunt, knocking in Vaughn, and making it 5-2.
RHP Wes Wrenn (1-0) gets the win. He pitched six innings and allowed two runs, both earned, on six hits. He walked one and struck out six. LHP Tyler Sexton (0-1) took the loss for Aberdeen. The southpaw surrendered all five runs, four earned, on just four hits in 5.1 innings of work. He walked two and struck out seven in the losing effort.
The IronBirds will look for a split of this two-game series with the Cyclones on Tuesday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00. RHP Tim Adleman is The IronBirds will return to Aberdeen on Saturday June 26th, for another two-game set with the Cyclones. That game is scheduled for 7:05.
