Clearly holding food at the proper temperature is not useful information for the public since nobody can do it. Perhaps this information could be formulated into quarterly and annual reports, or a running talley, with # of violations per establishment? It might then at least approach usefulness.

Thanks for the link. Plenty of useful information there, but still not real data for comparitive purposes, since virtually everywhere has some violations. All that data needs to be organized and presented in a different way to be really useful to a consumer.

These totally useless reports continue to be issued. If Joe’s Slop Joint is serving cat instead of chicken we need to know it. The health department continues to issue these silly science lessons. “Potentially hazardous food must be held at proper temperature. Food must be held at proper cold temperature.” is about as useful as telling me that what goes up must come down. When will this department quit trying to justify its existence and give us data by which we can make a judgment?
B Brown says
Have to agree with Dave on this. What is the “potentially hazardous food” that was not properly chilled or warmed? A bottle of ketchup on the counter? Please! I think it would be more helpful too me to know which food establishments inspected were in total compliance with the law.
On another note. Has anyone ever seen a Health Inspection report prominently displayed in any food service activity that wasn’t a 100%.
Inquisitor Maximus says
A county drone with a food thermometer determined that their mayonnaise was a little too warm or their spaghetti sauce was a little too cool. Fairly innocuous violations, unless its you becoming reacquainted with your Wawa tuna salad hogie.
Braveheart says
Does anyone have any information on how many employees the Harford County Health Department has, what their salaries are, and what their general mandate is?
hayseed says
‘Too much’ is the easiest way to answer that. Ask somebody in the farming community what they think about them, and how many pointless hoops they make them jump through for everything from farmers markets to petting zoos.
Dave says
Unfortunately the Health Dept. is a state agency. So there’s not a whole lot our local officials can do to help.
